From Cannes to Charlottesville, from fashion to film, the season of the film festival is an exciting one. And it’s that time of year in Charlottesville! The Virginia Film Festival begins tomorrow, November 9, and runs through Sunday, November 12, and brings the best of international, domestic, and local films to the theaters of Charlottesville every year. For the 3rd year in a row, Darling is partnering with the festival to bring you the best of Virginia’s film festival style.
This year, we styled two glowing gals from the VFF staff, Production Intern Rebecca Malaret and Operations Manager Sarah Cain. Don’t they look just darling?!
For this duo shoot, I styled the gals in Fall outfits perfect for this weekend’s cripsy temps and film hopping activities. These gals are going to be only mostly super busy during the festival, making it a great experience for all the film-goers from near and far. Inspired by Fall hues, pattern mixing, and some of the Fall trends, I created two looks for each darling gal.
For Rebecca, on the left, it was all about the clever layering, and some seventies vibes. From the lambskin suede-look Joie skirt, knee high boots, striped sweater with the turtleneck layered underneath, this outfit makes this petite gal look 6 feet tall. And warm! Add a pair of tights or a cropped jacket (think teddy or faux bomber) to complete this look for cooler evening temps. Don’t forget some big on-trend statement hoops!
For Sarah, on the right, it was all about pattern mixing and rich textures, but in simple, classic silhouettes. This felted sweater dress looks adorable dressed down with the lace-up boots, keeping it casual. Add the trending lady’s tailored car coat (they’re everywhere this season!), and you have the perfect weekend outfit to look sharp and put together, but comfortable, for the festival!
And, naturally, we took the gals to The Violet Crown on the mall for a mini shoot, complete with heavily buttered popcorn and giggling in an empty theater.
