Devotional Series: Be Free, Week 1

Linnea White

Be Free | Introduction

My hope and prayer for this devotional is to have each of us grow together and grow in our relationship with Jesus. May we gain a better understanding of our identity in Him. I have been seeking His voice and guidance on where to start this devotional and I believe that this is the best place to start - this "Be Free" series. It will take us each one step closer to being truly free in Jesus. There is no freedom apart from Christ Jesus, who died for our sins, and once we experience that freedom, we can truly live.

Each week during this series we will soak in His truth and apply it to our daily life - one fruit of the Spirit at a time.

be free week 1

I pray that this devotional series will be a community for women to be open and honest about their struggles and hardships, praises and victories, and the pruning that takes place in order for us to blossom!

For some women, loving others and serving them humbly comes naturally, while for others, it may be having a gentle spirit. All in all we are here to grow with one another and be transformed into women of God who love, uplift, encourage, and serve one another. This will allow us to be more comfortable in our own skin as our identity in Christ becomes whole and renewed. My hope is for each of us to gain freedom from judgement, freedom from fear, and freedom from comparison.

Week 1 | Love

Galatians 5:13-26

"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."

I know the majority of people, whether you call yourself a Christian or not, heard in their childhood the command to love your neighbor as yourself. But what does this truly look like? Are we as women going out of our way to uplift one another?

We can start applying this in our own circles, with friends, family, and the woman on the street corner asking for money to buy food. When we love, like Jesus loves us, our intention will be pure. We will love with a serving heart, not for outward reward or recognition, but truly for the love of another, for the love of a Sister.

Women, smile at one another, compliment one another, serve one another, and do so with a pure heart.

My challenge for you this week is to love. Go out of your way to change someone’s day.

I can tell you this truth: doing so will help set you free.

Be Blessed my friends!
