She makes us beautiful, that's what she does! We recently worked with Sarah Hatch, local hairstylist and makeup artist, for our Darling on the Trail photo shoot at King Family Vineyards. She met us bright and early at the shop to style our four models. She's a master at her trade (seriously, ask her all the questions when you're sitting in her chair), and her spunk makes each collaboration a joy. Stay tuned for a collaboration in a few weeks with Sarah for the Virginia Film Festival! We are so excited to partner with this amazing local lady, our newest darling. Meet her in the Q&A below!
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? If not the Charlottesville area, what brought you here?
Originally from CT and moved around in NC & SC in my 20's & wanted to find a more central place to call home.
Describe what you do in town.
I am a master hairstylist and makeup artist at At Last in Charlottesville.
How did you get into the hair and makeup/cosmetology business?
It started a long time ago experimenting with friends and family for special occasions and developed into my passion shortly after. I always loved seeing the transformation with just a little makeup or a hair change.
I like being able to help people feel their best.
It's story time. Talk about your collaboration with Darling Boutique.
I love collaborating with the ladies of Darling. The ladies' ideas are so inspiring and creative that I end up being able to develop my own creative ideas off of theirs.
How do you stay on top of the latest techniques and trends in your trade?
Classes classes classes! I also love watching the other talented people I work with. I am always learning.
What inspires you? Where do you go to be creative?
I base a lot of my creative decisions on seasons and textures of what's around. And, of course, shopping lol. I love to play around with different styles, but I also try to not fall victim to trendy options. I have to say I feel the most creative at the salon.
What are some Fall/Winter hair and makeup trends/products/styles our darlings should know about? Suggested makeup products, skin care routine to follow for the changing weather, or hair styling tips for the new (colder) season?
I'm loving the fall colors right now - coppers, golds, and reds are really popular at the moment, and warmer tones of browns. Things I'd recommend for fall would be a good moisturizer. I love eminence chamomile moisturizer/hydrating shampoo and conditioner (sulfate free, of course), Eufora nourish shampoo & conditioner. To battle flyaways due to static and drier air, using a dry oil like Brazilian Blowouts dry oil is great and not greasy and a little goes a long way.
What item of makeup can you not leave the house without?
What's your go-to hairstyle?
For myself a top knot, for sure.
Any products you swear by?
I love Eufora texture spray, and for an amazing blowout, I love Brazilian Blowout smoothing serum.
How can someone book your services?
You can contact At Last at 434-295-6633.
Any exciting projects/collaborations coming up?
I'm looking forward to working with Darling soon for the VA film festival, and winter photo shoots with local photographers.
