Film Festival Style: Dressing Up Two Virginia Film Festival Gals

Linnea White

DSCF7898.jpg

From Cannes to Charlottesville, from fashion to film, the season of the film festival is an exciting one. And it’s that time of year in Charlottesville! The Virginia Film Festival begins tomorrow, November 9, and runs through Sunday, November 12, and brings the best of international, domestic, and local films to the theaters of Charlottesville every year. For the 3rd year in a row, Darling is partnering with the festival to bring you the best of Virginia’s film festival style. This year, we styled two glowing gals from the VFF staff, Production Intern Rebecca Malaret and Operations Manager Sarah Cain. Don't they look just darling?!

For this duo shoot, I styled the gals in Fall outfits perfect for this weekend's cripsy temps and film hopping activities. These gals are going to be only mostly super busy during the festival, making it a great experience for all the film-goers from near and far. Inspired by Fall hues, pattern mixing, and some of the Fall trends, I created two looks for each darling gal.

For Rebecca, on the left, it was all about the clever layering, and some seventies vibes. From the lambskin suede-look Joie skirt, knee high boots, striped sweater with the turtleneck layered underneath, this outfit makes this petite gal look 6 feet tall. And warm! Add a pair of tights or a cropped jacket (think teddy or faux bomber) to complete this look for cooler evening temps. Don't forget some big on-trend statement hoops!

For Sarah, on the right, it was all about pattern mixing and rich textures, but in simple, classic silhouettes. This felted sweater dress looks adorable dressed down with the lace-up boots, keeping it casual. Add the trending lady's tailored car coat (they're everywhere this season!), and you have the perfect weekend outfit to look sharp and put together, but comfortable, for the festival!

And, naturally, we took the gals to The Violet Crown on the mall for a mini shoot, complete with heavily buttered popcorn and giggling in an empty theater.

Virginia Film Festival Style: Feeling French

Linnea White

From Cannes to Charlottesville, from fashion to film, the season of the film festival is an exciting one. And it's that time of year in Charlottesville! The Virginia Film Festival begins tomorrow, November 3, and runs through Sunday, November 6, and brings the best of international, domestic, and local films to the theaters of Cville every year. And Darling is partnering with the festival to bring you the best of Virginia's film festival style. Giving a nod to the renown French film festival, and to the many black & white and historical film screenings happening at Vinegar Hill Theater, I styled this adorable VFF Intern, Lucie Lyon, in a black & white, European-inspired ensemble. It all began with the j'adore sweater, and quickly became a modern, chic look with classic elements - like the red lip and locket-look necklace, declaring our love for Virginia and this wonderful festival. The mod mini skirt, silk scarf, geometric clutch, and platform booties give this look a modern edge, perfect for the cultured film go-ers of today.

Darling adores the Virginia Film Festival! How will you get styled for the weekend festivities? Leave a comment or show us your #vffstyle on Instagram, and win two ticket vouchers, available for pick up at the shop!

A Movie Makeover | Our Darlings

Linnea White

VFF_GALA_2015_07-e1447198571599.jpg

Last week, our lucky Darling Movie Makeover Giveaway winner was styled and pampered for a night at The Virginia Film Festival's Opening Night Gala at The Jefferson Theater. What a night! Renata Germino, a teacher with the City Schools and proud mother, stunned in her Alice and Olivia black dress, accessorized with shoes and earrings from Darling Boutique. Sarah Hatch brought out Renata's natural beauty, complimenting her already gorgeous self with classic, glamorous hair and makeup for the evening.

Thank you, Renata, for being a wonderful, gracious winner! We were honored to style you and celebrate! And thank you to The Virginia Film Festival for this fun partnership. Styled photos taken inside The Paramount Theater.
