Sunday Brunch Style Inspiration

Linnea White

Ah, sweet brunch. Put on your Sunday Best. It's Sunday Funday, darlings. This Rifle Paper Co. + Anthropologie collaboration dress is the perfect floral number for some Sunday Brunch Style inspiration.

While the mimosas are flowing and the sweet, sweet smell of bacon is wafting in the Summer breeze, you'll be looking dang cute in your Sunday brunch style. Like any enjoyable outing, synchronizing a stylish look is half the fun.

We went a little more for the Post-Church-Brunch-Go-er look with this floral dress. Because, to be real, sometimes brunch style means overalls and a tshirt. But this dress gave us all the brunch feels - just picture that tall flute of mimosa in one hand. It's a match made in brunch heaven. And with so many delicious brunch spots along the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, you can stroll right over to Darling Boutique on 1st Street for a little afternoon shopping to get all your future brunch ensembles.

How to Wear Booties in the Summer: Cool Kid Status

Linnea White

I call this The Wall Flower OOTD. Cuz it's literally floral and on a wall. But it's also what I'd imagine a super cool wall flower would look like. And this OOTD also teaches you how to wear booties in the Summer.

This outfit is really all about the 'tude. A pair of floral Free People shorts and this stunning cream blouse by Anthropologie could look so feminine and delicate. But I didn't want to style them that way. Cuz what's the fun in doing what's expected (especially with style)? Instead, I took what look like delicate pieces, and styled them for the bad girl - The Wall Flower. The circle sunnies and stacking chokers and Aztec earring jackets give this look a rocker vibe, taking it from sweet to sassy.

And what's really important is how to wear your favorite booties in the Summer. Just because it's hot outside doesn't mean you can't rock a pair of booties! Especially with the right outfit! Booties look great with shorts from romping around in the Summer, and they especially can give a sundress a totally different vibe than all those sandals and wedges you've been wearing. Try it out. Just make sure you wear a good pair of sweat-wicking socks. You'll be glad you did.

Shop Girl Style: Pretty in Pink OOTD

Linnea White

So I should've posted this on National Pink Day a few Friday's ago, but I wasn't that with it, or that cool. However, this Shop Girl Style outfit deserves to be posted anyways, because you can have a Pretty in Pink OOTD any day.

Tristan came in to do a shoot one Saturday a few weeks back, and we just had to capture this #ootd. I love showing my #darlingfinds with my Shop Girl Style, and this was no different. Except it did include some recent non-darling finds - shocker, I know! I almost ALWAYS shop at my store, but everyone once in a while, I make an exception. And when I saw this pink top go on sale on Anthropologie's website, I snagged it. I don't wear pink often, and have never considered myself a pink girl, but pink is HOT this season, so hot it even got a new name - millennial pink. And so are ruffles. And this top has both. I'd call that a win.

Retro white sunglasses are in this Summer, too, and I searched for the right pair for my face shape. This pair from Urban Outfitters, the Edie Retro, were under $20 and are just perfect. They're my new fav for the Summer days ahead.

What are your favorite Summer trends right now, darlings?

Girl Boss Moment: Vote for Darling

Linnea White

This is my Girl Boss Moment. It's the final week of voting for the Best of C-VILLE, and Darling is up for THREE categories this year - Consignment Store, Female-owned Business, and Place for a Dress. And, call it wearing-your-confidence-until-your-feel-it, I decided to own my boss-ness by wearing it in this Shop Girl Style shoot.

Even saying that - "own my boss-ness" - has such an odd sound to me. Some days, I still can't believe I actually am a Girl Boss, that I own my own shop, that I am living this life (somebody pinch me). And some days, I still doubt that I belong among the ranks of Boss Babes in Cville and beyond. Doubt can be crippling... if you let it.

"Don't compare your hustle to their highlight reel." This is a quote from the Girl Boss herself, Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal and author of the book #Girlboss. And it's something every female entrepreneur out there needs to remember - doubt and comparison are traps; don't fall for them. Affirmations, encouragement, selflessness, humility, vulnerability, women-empowering-women - that's where your focus should be. Change your perspective, darlings. It may seem like a silly thing, but I've started a collection of "boss" shirts to wear the confidence in a weird and wonderful way when I need to push the doubt away.

What does it mean to be a 'Girl Boss'?

"A Girl Boss is someone who has big dreams and is willing to work hard for them. So being a Girl Boss is really about being the boss of your own life. You don't have to be the boss of anyone else to be a Girl Boss." - Sophia Amoruso interview via Elle

Girl Boss Moment | Photo by Tristan Williams

To me, being a Girl Boss has been a journey of taking risks, trusting in God in BIG ways, stewarding the vision well, taking baby steps (going low and slow), failing graciously and learning from it, and being okay with being vulnerable about this #ladybosslife. Sharing the journey, sharing the dream, sharing the real talk with those who are cheering you on in the sidelines, with those who get it - that part keeps you grounded.

For a moment, I laughed sitting in that throne, and said to Tristan, "I am so far outside of my comfort zone, and I love it." I meant for the shoot, for owning my boss-ness in such a blatant way. But really, what I realized I meant was this entire lady boss life has be out of my comfort zone, that I've been pushed and stretched in ways I never imagined I could be - and I've been made better by the challenge. Being a Girl Boss really means having the ability to motivate yourself, to not give up when it gets tough (cuz that's every day), and to keep doing the work. Because it is worth it. 100%.

I'm grateful to say that this has been a season of affirmation for me, for the shop. I've been the sole owner of Darling for almost a year now, and being recognized on the Best of C-VILLE ballot for "Female-owned Business" is still surreal. I am honored. I've also seen the business grow in big and exciting ways this year so far, and the affirmations of friends, fellow boss babes, and customers has been the wind in my sails. So a big, heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all of my cheerleaders, near and far. You keep me going when my t-shirts aren't enough.

Spring Florals and Flats: Flirty Style

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking. - The Devil Wears Prada

Ok, so, Spring florals may not be new, trendy, or groundbreaking, but they sure are cute and the perfect way to brighten your wardrobe with that Spring-spiration (proud of that pun, y'all).

A touch of floral makes the day bright, and the outfit right (I've had too much caffeine, clearly). We love the contrast of a classic, tailored pant with the boho sleeves and flowy fabric of this white blouse. Talk about easy, breezy, CoverGirl. The Charlie ankle pant from Anthropologie is a classic style, and they've produced it in a variety of patterns or colors of the years. This pair's pink and orange floral pop on that green base.

I about died when the J. Crew flats came in to the shop in the same hue of orange. Fun flats for Spring are pouring in to the shop, and so worth finding the perfect pair for your foot. Make sure they're comfortable and not just good-lookin'!

Don't forget to add a pink lip and a bolder fuchsia nail color as you move boldly into your Spring wardrobe. It's time! Seize the Spring day!
