The Trench Coat of All Trenches: Burberry

Linnea White

Well, hey there, 60 degree weather on February 1st! With Spring arrivals coming in the shop now, and apparently random Spring temperatures, we decided it was time to hit the city in transitional Spring style featuring the trench coat of all trench coats - Burberry.

The trench coat is a classic closet staple, and it doesn't get much more classic than a Burberry. The trench is timeless, effortless, and oh-so-chic. It is also an ideal outwear piece for transitioning from Winter or Spring (or Summer to Fall).

Keeping the outfit underneath clean and simple, this crisp white Banana Republic blouse was the perfect compliment to a leather panels khaki Anthropologie skirt. Add a red lip (locally made, of course) and this stunning red Kate Spade arm candy, this outfit is screaming "city slicker."

You'll see new versions of the trench hitting the racks this season, in softer textures and fabrics for a flowy layered Spring look. But this classic tailored Burberry trench is simply timeless, and is ready to hit the city streets.

Winter White: A Winter Wonderland Outfit

Linnea White

Baby, it's cold outside! Winter is here, and that means two things: Winter Wonderland and cozy knitwear (land). In the spirit of Winter, I styled darling gal Meredyth in a Winter White ensemble featuring locally made knitwear - because Winter.

When this deer scene top by Anthropologie came into the shop, I knew it needed to be featured in a Winter themed outfit. And then the knitwear by Free Rang and Feral came in, and it was a match made in Narnia. All this outfit needs is a box of Turkish delights, a cup of steaming hot cocoa, oh, and snow, lots of snow.

The Winter White style is certainly fun to put together, finding shades of white and cream and blush to pair together for that effortlessly crisp palette to brighten those grey, cold days. These Banana Republic corduroys, with their moto-inspired seams and zippers, are certainly a spunky take on Winter White pants.

Do you dare to try the Winter White trend this year?

Retro Style: The Capelet

Linnea White

For days when you need just the tiniest coverage for the chilly weather, try a capelet - the silhouette that's a little bit retro style & a lot a bit classy lady. Styling Kerrie, owner and maker babe behind Kitsune's Closet and Darling gal (see her on Mondays at the shop!), was a fun experiment in Mod-meets-Paris. Her natural knack for retro style made this outfit playful, whimsical, and oh-so-chic.

The houndstooth cape mixed with the soft cashmere turtleneck, the sassy Anthropologie mini skirt, and those J. Crew heels came together with Kerrie's own personal flare (like those fishnet tights and that insanely awesome hair color), and, of course, her very own Kitsune's lipstick. Don't forget the locally made vintage button earrings by Pip's & Co. for an added touch.

What do you think of the capelet and this retro styled look? How do you like to mix retro elements into your outfits?

Winter Fur | Every Day Drama

Linnea White

Photo-Feb-13-3-44-13-PM-e1455720337370.jpg

When a vintage fur shawl finds its way into the shop, Winter fur outfit ideas (the overly dramatic kind) come to life. This Fall and Winter, fur has been full on trending, from the runways to the department stores, and we've seen a number of great fur pieces in the shop (here, here, and here). On a blustery cold Winter day this past weekend, I bundled up by layering a full length velvet skirt with this cozy vintage fur shawl. Add a top knot, a plum lip, a high neck tank, and black booties for a dramatic every day Winter look.
