Spring Style for All the Darlings

Linnea White

Every woman deserves to feel truly beautiful. Every darling gal is ALL together beautiful, fearfully and wonderfully made. This blog and this little shop believe this fiercely. We are passionate about carrying curated consignment and locally made goods for every woman, and for all sizes. So here's a little Spring style for ALL the darlings.

This #darlinggal, Erin O'Hare, is one of my favorites. She has been consigning at Darling since the beginning, almost 5 years ago now. Her vintage-inspired, whimsical, playful, and so adorable style has always inspired me. She rocks a vintage dress and pair of clogs like no other, and she always knows how to flatter her (va-va-voom) silhouette. I can't speak highly enough of how I love this girl, and her personal style. She is insanely sweet, deeply caring, and boldly beautiful.

On Erin | Secondhand pieces: Gap dress, size 12, $22 / Lucky Brand jean jacket, M, $28 // Local Artisan pieces: Pip's & Co. earrings, $12 // From Erin’s Closet: Lotta from Stockholm clogs

But my heart always drops when Erin comes into the shop, has store credit to use from her own consignment, and can only spend it on accessories. I want her to find all the cute dresses, tops, and pants in her size, but the truth is, I don't always have it. And it's time for that to change!

I am deeply passionate about empowering women and inspiring strength and confidence through fashion. And I need the ladies of Charlottesville to support this desire, to feel equally passionate about confidence-boosting and inclusivity, and to help Darling create a curated collection of beautiful clothing and accessories in a variety of sizes.

Please mention when scheduling a consignment appointment if this applies to you! We want every woman to consign and shop at Darling --- because every darling gal is altogether beautiful!

Spring Style Trends, Part 2: Gingham Get-ups

Linnea White

From off-the-shoulder tops and wide leg pants, to gingham get-ups and slide sandals, we're talking about Spring Style Trends on the blog, showcasing how you can rock the latest trends AND shop secondhand at the same time.

Gingham is back this Spring in a big way, and when this made in Korea gingham shirtdress came in to the shop, I knew it needed to be featured. Slides (and mules) are also trending this season, and these white slide sandals added a bit of chill to this otherwise buttoned up look.

And what's better than a pair of statement sunnies for finishing a head-to-toe look? These Twiggy-inspired sunnies are so over-the-top, they actually work. And looking like a bug is also super big this season, just FYI/ICYMI, so why the heck not?

I call this my Iris Apfel-inspired look, or my fly-on-the-wall look. Either way, it's effortlessly cool, and insanely comfy - a combo I can fully support. Especially for the weekend, and this outfit is owning all the weekend vibes, right down to the people watching and window lounging.

How are you rocking gingham this Spring, darling?

P.S. As I mentioned before, this is my new hair cut, and it's just so good. Who else feels like a fresh chop in the Springtime is the BEST?!

Spring Florals and Flats: Flirty Style

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking. - The Devil Wears Prada

Ok, so, Spring florals may not be new, trendy, or groundbreaking, but they sure are cute and the perfect way to brighten your wardrobe with that Spring-spiration (proud of that pun, y'all).

A touch of floral makes the day bright, and the outfit right (I've had too much caffeine, clearly). We love the contrast of a classic, tailored pant with the boho sleeves and flowy fabric of this white blouse. Talk about easy, breezy, CoverGirl. The Charlie ankle pant from Anthropologie is a classic style, and they've produced it in a variety of patterns or colors of the years. This pair's pink and orange floral pop on that green base.

I about died when the J. Crew flats came in to the shop in the same hue of orange. Fun flats for Spring are pouring in to the shop, and so worth finding the perfect pair for your foot. Make sure they're comfortable and not just good-lookin'!

Don't forget to add a pink lip and a bolder fuchsia nail color as you move boldly into your Spring wardrobe. It's time! Seize the Spring day!

Casual Friday: Borrowing from the Boys

Linnea White

It's Casual Friday, and we're borrowing from the boys for this easy weekend look. This up-and-down Spring weather has us thinking about simple pieces, styled well, and these Anthropologie pieces certainly style well.

How to Borrow from the Boys

"Borrowing from the boys doesn’t always mean literally wearing men's clothing,"Banana Republic's Marissa Webb says (in a guide to borrowing from the boys on WhoWhatWear). "It's about contrast and proportions."

One of the staple pieces to "borrow" and inspire a menswear look is the boyfriend button up shirt. This Cloth & Stone plaid button up from Anthropologie is the perfect touch of boyish charm and soft, feminine detail (that gauzy fabric is so soft and all the YES).

Another key piece to consider: the relaxed khaki pant. Look no further than Anthropologie's "Hyphen Fit" chino pant by Pilcro & The Letterpress. Super soft and slightly relaxed, they are the perfect casual pant for weekend adventures - and they come in a huge variety of colors. Wear with a simple tee tucked in just right, or button it up and toss on a blazer.

Let your personality speak when borrowing from the boys. Maybe a silk scarf worn as tie, a tailored blazer, or a chunky, oversized sweater. It's playful, and meant to be fun, so let it be just that - casual, flirty, and fun. Add a pair of unisex sunnies, like these classic Wayfarer style ones, and keep the accessories minimal and clean.

What does a weekend menswear inspired outfit look like for you, darling?

Valentine's Day Outfit: Pink vs. Red

Linnea White

vdaycollage.jpg

It's Valentine's Day, darlings, and that means it's time for an epic battle of love (right?). We styled two Valentine's Day outfits for two kinds of gals - the Lady in Red or Pretty in Pink (a.k.a. 80's Barbie). From sugar to spice, we've got that last minute VDay outfit inspiration you need.

P.S. I went a little crazy with a lavender hair toner to see what would happen, and had a little temporary lilac hue going when we did this shoot! This hair makeover is giving me LIFE these days. Once you go platinum white, you never go back... right?

Pretty in Pink

I felt like a cupcake in this dress - in the best way possible. All the girly vibes had me ready for an 80's themed VDay party. I added my vegan leather jacket to edge up the look a bit, and a pair of new sunnies for that extra touch of glam. Don't forget a locally made lipstick in hot pink!

Lady in Red

Silk = sexy. This silk DVF dress is SO va-va-voom, I was swooning as soon as it touched my skin. For the spicier gal, this dress is made to show off some curves, and light up the room in the crisp red hue. With a dress this sexy, keep the accessories simple and understated. I opted for a pair of tassel earrings by Pan&Tea, a classic (locally made) red lipstick, and a side swept 'do to add a touch of elegance. And just because, threw my Anthropologie leather jacket over my shoulders again for that finishing statement piece.
