UVA Game Day Outfit

Linnea White

Hoo's getting ready for Fall and picking out that UVa Game Day outfit? We are! This navy Anthropologie bomber jacket is the perfect Fall layer for game day. Throw it over something orange, like this on-trend button front A-line skirt, and a pair of white kicks or boots, like these classic Campus Frye boots.

Shhhh... don't tell anyone. Abby actually went to JMU (Class of 2017!). And dressing her up in orange and blue (my alma mater - Go Hoos!) was super fun. She was a trooper, and looked absolutely darling in her UVA game day outfit.

This University of Virginia alumnus, female-owned business is bringing you the very Best of C-VILLE when it comes to consignment and locally-made goods! Come check out #darlingcville and shop for Fall. Show us your UVa ID for a special 10% off this weekend - and all Home Game Weekends!

Now Hoos ready to tailgate on the Lawn?!

Off the Shoulder: The Trend that Keeps on Trending

Linnea White

The Off the Shoulder trend is showing no signs of stopping. It's the little trend that keeps on trending. This outfit proves you can rock the latest trends - tassel earrings, off the shoulder, and lace up sandals - AND shop consignment.

Summer style in is full force as we find ourselves in the middle of July. Tassel earrings and lace up sandals are still hot for the Summer, and the off the shoulder trend is as hot as the pavement in Arizona RN. With all these trends trending and being a fashionista, of course I want to keep up with the latest. But I'm also a consignment gal at heart, and love finding those gems at an affordable price with a conscious consumer mindset. And I love proving through these style posts and this entire blog that shopping secondhand can be trendy and is all about how you style pieces.

How are you rocking the latest Summer style trends, darlings?

How to Style a Vintage Dress: Shop Girl Style

Linnea White

This is my unicorn dress. Isn't it magical? A few weeks ago, the shop hosted an Earth Day pop-up shop with Two Scoops Vintage, and I found some amazing vintage pieces - including this dress and umbrella. Naturally, we took to the streets on the rainy day for a little shoot to show how to style a vintage dress.

Styling vintage should be fun - taking pieces from another time, another life, and translating them for a modern context. When it comes to vintage dresses, you can play up the retro vibes in the styling, or you can make it more modern by deconstructing the look and adding contemporary pieces - especially in the accessories.

When I found this incredible dress, it fit like a glove, and I couldn't get over the bright colors with my white hair. Unicorn status. I paired the dress with two current trends I was already wearing that day in the shop - my new-to-me white sneakers and J. Crew pom earrings. I almost tried a different belt/scarf combo with the dress to give it a more modern edge, but ended up going with the original belt to play up the retro vibes of this vintage look.

And to quote one of my favorite movies of all time, Singing in the Rain...

"Kathy: This California dew's a little heavier than usual tonight...

Don: Oh really? From where I stand, the sun is shining all over the place..."

Cue the song and dance!

P.S. This photo shoot is one of my favorite shoots Tristan has ever done. That jumping picture was one take, and he nailed it. I love when I get to be a dancer again on shoots! I hope it brings you as much joy as it did when I first saw that picture!

What do you think, darlings? How do you like to rock vintage pieces?

Bomber Jacket Outfit Inspiration

Linnea White

The bomber jacket is as hot as a toast right now. (Toast is also very hot right now, just ask avocado.) And on this rainy day in Charlottesville, we're rocking this Anthropologie bomber jacket outfit for a little urban street style inspiration.

Since we've established the bomber jacket is hot as the gate's of Hell right now, it's really not about whether we like that this is a trend or not. It's about how to style it. And the bomber jacket is quite surprisingly very versatile. From sporty chic athleisure to urban street style, there are many ways to wear the bomber.

Since it's pretty obvious bombers can be sported with jeans or pants in a variety of ways, we went for a little bolder take on how to wear the bomber jacket - with a dress (and not a fitted one, at that). This maxi dress is the perfect pairing, with the button up front, it allows for a little skin to show and create a nice visual line from head to toe, keeping the look long and lean.

And since we didn't have a pair of white kicks to add to the look available in the shop at the time (cuz those are also hot as ten thousand suns right now), we went for a little pattern play with this floral pair. Cuz pattern play makes this look even radder.

What do you think of the bomber jacket trend, darling? How would you style the bomber?

Mother-Daughter Style for Mother's Day

Linnea White

"Empowered women empower women." I am deeply passionate about this - it is a mantra in my life, for my shop, for how I see and interact with other women. And it's also an anthem for Mother's Day. Because who taught us more about confidence, beauty, grace, style, and passion than our very own momma? And today, it's all about loving on my momma in this special Mother-Daughter style post, featuring my gorgeous momma.

Behind the Mother-Daughter Style

I'm not gonna lie. She didn't want to do this. Unlike her ENFP youngest daughter who rather enjoys style shoots and being in front of the camera (that would be me), she is not someone who enjoys being in front of the camera. But I made her do it. I guess pouting still works, even at 28!

Styling my mom for this shoot was my first priority, and I had so much fun doing it. I wanted her to feel beautiful in what she was wearing, and comfortable in it, too.

My mom is Super Mom. She homeschooled all four of us kids growing up, while working part-time. Once we were either out of the nest or in high school, she went into education and began a career working for Special Education Pre-School students in Virginia Beach City Schools. (Like I said, she's Super Mom.) She's also been an avid runner, something she picked up because her children drove her out the door and onto the streets with pitchforks. Just kidding. But she did start running after starting a family (a.k.a. having multiple children) for some much needed private time. And now, several Boston Marathons later, she's the freaking Energizer Bunny. I have a dream to run a marathon with my mom one day...

But I'll keep dreaming for now, and get back to the styling!

I styled her outfit first, since she was really what it was all about. Then I worked on finding an outfit that would compliment her own. And these dresses ended up pairing perfectly together, anchored together with navy, and both shifty in style. And I loved finding jewelry she would love, and that naturally already went with her style (like those amazing bracelets she's been wearing for as long as I can remember).

I was so happy she loved her outfit - so much so that she bought the dress, boots, and necklace! I'd say that was some successful styling.

I Love You, Mom

Mom, it was an honor to style you. Thanks for getting in front of the camera with me. Thank you for supporting me endlessly, loving me deeply and honestly, and for always, always being there for me - for a long talk on the phone, for a prayer request, for a good cry, for a good belly laugh, for a good glass of wine, for a home-baked sweet-tooth fix. You'll always be Super Mom in my eyes. Happy Mother's Day!

How does your mom inspire & empower you, darling?
