Mother-Daughter Style for Mother's Day

Linnea White

"Empowered women empower women." I am deeply passionate about this - it is a mantra in my life, for my shop, for how I see and interact with other women. And it's also an anthem for Mother's Day. Because who taught us more about confidence, beauty, grace, style, and passion than our very own momma? And today, it's all about loving on my momma in this special Mother-Daughter style post, featuring my gorgeous momma.

Behind the Mother-Daughter Style

I'm not gonna lie. She didn't want to do this. Unlike her ENFP youngest daughter who rather enjoys style shoots and being in front of the camera (that would be me), she is not someone who enjoys being in front of the camera. But I made her do it. I guess pouting still works, even at 28!

Styling my mom for this shoot was my first priority, and I had so much fun doing it. I wanted her to feel beautiful in what she was wearing, and comfortable in it, too.

My mom is Super Mom. She homeschooled all four of us kids growing up, while working part-time. Once we were either out of the nest or in high school, she went into education and began a career working for Special Education Pre-School students in Virginia Beach City Schools. (Like I said, she's Super Mom.) She's also been an avid runner, something she picked up because her children drove her out the door and onto the streets with pitchforks. Just kidding. But she did start running after starting a family (a.k.a. having multiple children) for some much needed private time. And now, several Boston Marathons later, she's the freaking Energizer Bunny. I have a dream to run a marathon with my mom one day...

But I'll keep dreaming for now, and get back to the styling!

I styled her outfit first, since she was really what it was all about. Then I worked on finding an outfit that would compliment her own. And these dresses ended up pairing perfectly together, anchored together with navy, and both shifty in style. And I loved finding jewelry she would love, and that naturally already went with her style (like those amazing bracelets she's been wearing for as long as I can remember).

I was so happy she loved her outfit - so much so that she bought the dress, boots, and necklace! I'd say that was some successful styling.

I Love You, Mom

Mom, it was an honor to style you. Thanks for getting in front of the camera with me. Thank you for supporting me endlessly, loving me deeply and honestly, and for always, always being there for me - for a long talk on the phone, for a prayer request, for a good cry, for a good belly laugh, for a good glass of wine, for a home-baked sweet-tooth fix. You'll always be Super Mom in my eyes. Happy Mother's Day!

How does your mom inspire & empower you, darling?

Dressing Up with Cville Blooms

Linnea White

Last Spring, we interviewed Della Bennett to talk all about how cville BLOOMS got started and her personal style. And this time, to promote the upcoming pop-up shop on 1st Street on Sunday, April 2, we styled Della in two outfits to showcase what a rockstar lady boss she is - day to night. From creating the beautiful arrangements and making deliveries, to attending events in all her lady boss glam, this darling gal is as seriously adorbs as she is seriously cool.

Blooming stories dipped in green topped with those positive V I B E S.

That's how Della described her business in 10 words or less in her interview with us last Spring, and it's still the perfect way to describe the floral arrangements she creates for cville BLOOMS. And this Sunday, for the 1st Street Block Party, you'll get to shop all of her grab-n-go floral arrangements and a wide selection of house plants! Because it's Spring and you need a little green in your (home) life.

Day Della: Fierce Florist Fashion

Daytime Della. Sounds like a super hero. With overalls as her super hero outfit, and scissors as her weapon of choice. Flower Power. It's a thing. And Della is the queen of it.

Night Della: Girl Gets Glam

Nighttime Della sure can get glam. This dress is a little bit retro, a little bit funky (that print!), and a lot a bit spunky. Playing up the '50s vibes of this dress, we threw on some cat eye sunglasses and a vintage snap closure leather handmade clutch. And to modernize the look a bit, like you want to with any vintage-inspired outfit, Della rocked a pair of handmade tassel earrings and her own #darlingfinds - a pair of black booties from last year.

cville blooms pop up shopWhen we think of the words "babe vibes," we think of an arrangement by cville BLOOMS. And lately, we've been crushing hard on the blooms by the babe Della Bennett. From succulents to billy balls, bouquets large and small, her blooms have been filling the shop with Spring cheer.

This weekend, get your cville BLOOMS floral fix! From the Charlottesville City Market to FleaVILLE at Lee Park, as you make your way down 1st street, stop by Darling for a special pop up shop with cville BLOOMS! Featuring fresh Grab & Go flowers AND a terrarium bar from 10-2, or while supplies last.

In the meantime, meet the babe behind the blooms.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? If not the Charlottesville area, what brought you here?

I was born & raised out in rural Fluvanna County. It was there that I developed a deep relationship with nature and all of its beauty - particularly flowers and plants. My mom & dad have been gardening since before I was born and continue to make their home a lush & inspiring environment. I moved away for college and then headed down to Charleston, SC where I continued to be inspired by the local beauty ... and let's be honest, goof off on the beach for a bit. Then right back to Charlottesville a few years later to get real and grow a business!

As a local artisan, describe what you do in town.

I own cville BLOOMS - a local floral & plant design company. I offer custom flower arrangements, live gifts, hands-on workshops, and full wedding & event floral services. I love doing pop-up workshops all over Charlottesville and connecting with other creatives & business owners.

Describe cville BLOOMS in 10 words or less.

Blooming stories dipped in green topped with those positive V I B E S

It's story time. Talk about your collaboration with Darling Boutique.

We've been in a loving Instagram relationship for a while now. They reached out to me about doing something fun for their birthday event and I accepted, of course! I made a big bright beautiful flower arrangement for them and some cute little succulent favors for them to pass out to their favorite supporters. Next up, we're going to create a pop-up spring flower shop, and plan some workshops!

Where do you go to be creative?

Whether it be in my studio space or right on the kitchen table, my home is my creative sanctuary.

What inspires your products and/or your process?

Everything! I'm inspired by people, stories, photographs, travel, even food! I try to incorporate non-traditional items into my designs to help tell a story. Sometimes I use edible elements in my floral designs, or interesting glass scraps in my terrariums. I think I continue to do what I do because of the people. They want to see what I can do and they believe in my work. I can't really ask for much more than that!

When and why did you become an artisan? / How did you get into this business?

I would say I have always been a designer. I've dabbled in many mediums growing up, from painting to card making, jewelry and even edible arrangements. I've had many jobs and have been inspired by each of them in different ways but they always failed to keep me interested. I wanted to create! I started making floral & plant designs for family, friends, employers, and just for fun. Once people started asking me if I'd do small parties or if I sold my succulent designs and I decided to at least just start an Instagram page where I could document my creations. It sort of took off from there! I started spreading the word with friends & social media and in came dozens of orders for custom succulent designs, wedding inquiries, and so many other fun opportunities. Through this business, I continue to surpass my own creative and personal expectations while finding zero lack of inspiration in this blooming creative community that we call home. I don't think that cville BLOOMS could have started in any other place in the world.

What are you working on right now?

I have actually been spending a lot of time in the office to prepare for the upcoming busy season. Meeting with brides, writing proposals, workshop planning, that sort of stuff. Along with some long-term business planning.

What piece of jewelry can you not leave the house without?

These things never come off: my late grandmother's gold wedding band. It's simple with a bit of sparkle. And also my staple studs from Elaine B. They're just perfect.
