The Moto Jacket: How to Wear Blush Pink

Linnea White

It's Valentine's weekend, and this outfit has me blushing in blush pink. The duality of this flirty, feminine look lies in the moto jacket - adding a touch of edge to an otherwise sweet outfit, while also softening the black base with a soft, pale pink hue. It's sugar and spice, and everything nice.

Working the Moto Jacket

I've been waiting for an outfit that would let me work that "editor drape" with a structured jacket for a laidback-chic look. And this moto jacket from Loft was the perfect piece to pull it off. I love how the architecture of the jacket plays with the soft velvet and suede bottoms, and textured knit of the strapless Free People top. Soft and tough playing together in an effortless way (especially with those soft curls!).

This outfit has me blushing from more than just the fabric. Working with Tristan Williams for the blog has been a treat, and this shoot wow-ed me. This guy is a mega talented photographer, and after my recent hair makeover, I was stunned at how he captured the new hair, the outfit, the whole essence of the look. Props to Tristan, y'all.

How to Wear Blush Pink this Spring

Blush pink has me all sorts of excited for Spring. Blush is a sophisticated, endearing, elegant shade of pink, which normally isn't a color I'm drawn to. And don't be fooled - whether you have the skin tone or the right hair color to pair with blush hues, you can wear it, and work it. How can you wear blush pink, you ask? Take a note from this outfit for a few key tips to wearing blush hues this Spring.

  • Pair it with colors that flatter your skin tone. Blush pink may not be one of your colors, but it certainly pairs with a lot of other colors. Try it with navy, black, chocolate, olive green, charcoal grey, oxblood, teal, plum, or even deep lavender - rich tones to balance out the muted, washed out tone of blush. Warm or cool colors pair well with this accent color.
  • Anchor it. Keep blush rooted in your outfit to avoid the washed out, light qualities. Pairing it with dark colors is a way to anchor it, and so it wearing a blush piece (like this jacket) with an elongating base (like these black leggings).
  • Accessorize like a lady. If wearing a blush top or piece next to your face won't do with your skin tone, try adding it to your look with accent pieces - bags, shoes, belts, etc. It makes for a stunning leather accessory, neutral in its shade and easily workable into many outfits.

How do you wear blush pink, darling?

Darling Celebration: The Blog is Back!

Linnea White

After a few months away, the blog is back! And that's something worth celebrating. Two months ago, I became the sole owner of Darling Boutique, and it's been a crazy ride these last few weeks. I'm honored to be a lady boss on 1st Street, and I couldn't help but twirl with joy on 1st Street in this party number. I'm also thrilled to be working with local photographer, Tristan Williams, to produce new darling style inspiration, bring new faces to the blog, and celebrate this altogether beautiful life. Be you, darlings. The you God created you to be. Live each day close to your Creator, who created you to create. Never lose your wonder. Live abundantly, live wisely, live boldly, live creatively. And that includes your wardrobe! Now let's get to dressing up with Darling!

xo, Linnea

Back in Black

I felt like celebrating the relaunch of the blog, and this Anthropologie fringe top and Calypso St. Barth silk maxi skirt brought the party - with a little flare. Fringe is all the rage this season, and this fringe top was made for twirling and all the Fall fetes. From jeans and boots to a skirt and heels, this top is versatile and, most importantly, fun. Add an on-trend grey nail polish and a red lip, both locally made by Kitsune's Closet, and this outfit is made for any Fall occasion - like being a shop girl, all day, every day.

Memorial Day Style | Summer Sundress

Linnea White

memorialday10_darling.jpg

The temperatures are rising, the sun is shining, and the large bodies of water are calling. It's sundress season, and we're sporting some red, white, and blue for some Memorial Day style.

With a huge selection in stock, the perfect Summer sundress is waiting for you at Darling, and this new number by Roxy had us craving some oceanside hangs. With a subtle nod to nautical design, this dress is perfect for all of the Memorial Day festivities. Tie a little white blouse (linen or cotton for those hotter days) at the narrowest part of your waist to draw in the otherwise voluminous skirt on this number.

Playing with the nautical theme, this straw tote bag and gold sandals got us beach-ready. These nautical button studs by local artisan Pip's & Co are a simple addition to the look. And, of course, we had to feature the vibrant new lip and nail polish colors by Kitsune's Closet, made right here in Charlottesville. That Fiesta Red lipstick is our new favorite for Summer, and this Tomato nail polish is seriously rich in pigment and sass.

While this outfit has us ready to hit the pool, lake, or beach, we want to know: where are you headed to this Memorial Day Weekend to kick off Summer in style?

Spring Layers to the Max(i)

Linnea White

MG_6384.jpg

On days like today, it's all a girl can do to wear clever Spring layers. Early Spring in Virginia can be a tricky transitional season to dress for, and that's where smart layering comes in.

Once again, this look started with a statement piece - this maxi skirt from Anthropologie. From the pattern to the tassel ties, this skirt is a beauty. The J. Crew anorak jacket was next, dressing down the skirt and giving the look a layer for the chilly Spring temperatures. For a pop of color, this J. Crew tank top paired perfectly with one of the newest lip colors from Kitsune's Closet, Fiesta, a bright orangey-red perfect for the warmer weather ahead. Add some simple accessories by Dinosaur Toes and this classic Madewell leather bag for a look ready for any Spring day.

On Linnea: Vanessa Virginia (Anthropologie) maxi skirt, S, $48 / J. Crew orange tank top, XS, $14 / J. Crew anorak jacket, S, $32 / Madewell leather bag, $50 / Restricted lace up heels, $25 // Local Artisan Pieces: Dinosaur Toes brass cuff, $18, and gold-fill geometric hoops, $20 / Kitsune's Closet Fiesta lipstick, $10
