Spring Style Inspiration: Lilac Grey

Linnea White

Spring is starting to sprout here in the shop, with new Spring arrivals sprinkling in and blushed, flushed Spring hues scattering the racks. And we're having a serious moment with Lilac Grey right now.

This entire outfit was inspired by the arrival of locally made, small batch nail polish in Lilac Grey. This color is perfect for transitioning to Spring (and so is grey). So are layers. And this outfit embraces Spring hues and Spring layers in darling fashion.

This lilac hued floral dress by American Eagle's latest brand offshoot - Don't Ask Why - is perfect for transitioning into Spring. Add a sweater or jacket for an easy layered look, like this cozy light grey Loft one. And why not keep it sassy with an equally cozy felt hat from Free People, and a pair of grey booties from Madewell. Oh, and of course, because matchy matchy, this locally made leather choker was the perfect lilac hue for pairing with this look.

What are some of your favorite Spring hue color combinations?

Poncho Perfect: Boho Winter Layering

Linnea White

Styling a poncho can be a little intimidating. It's a lot of fabric, and can be unflattering on your frame if not styled for your body. But, ponchos can also be amazingly boho chic and super cozy when styled correctly. And this look is poncho perfect.

This temperate Winter weather has inspired me to experiment with layers, and when a few ponchos came into the shop this Winter, I decided to give this layering piece a try. Loving the fringe detail on this BCBG Max Azria black poncho, I went for a boho look, adding a felt hat in a bright color, a striped, cropped turtleneck, and pleather midi skirt. These Western style shoes really pull the look together, giving it just the finishing sass it needed.

Don't fear the poncho, darlings! Here are a few simple styling tips for ponchos:

  1. Keep the outfit one color - like all black.
  2. Long lines extend the frame under the poncho, especially if it's a bulky poncho. Try skinny jeans, a maxi skirt, fitted heels, or knee high boots. A long necklace layered over the poncho will do wonders for the eye and elongating the overall look.
  3. Belt it! A belted poncho can be a super chic look, and help accentuate your frame underneath.
  4. Layer a solid color poncho over stripes for a fun pop of pattern.
  5. Get boho with it - add a felt hat and flared pants, or a little extra fringe.

How do you style the poncho for chic layering?

Darling is on the trail – the Monticello Wine Trail, that is. Our first stop: King Family Vineyards for an afternoon polo picnic in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Last week, James King shared with us the history of King Family wine and Roseland Polo, a Sunday tradition for many locals. This week, see how we styled the looks for an early Fall afternoon at King Family! Shop these items and more at Darling Boutique, located on Charlottesville’s downtown mall!

Falling for Boho | Dressing Up with Darling

Linnea White

plumboho8.jpg

It's September! Hallelujah! It may still be muggy outside - good 'ole Virginia summer - but we are filling up the shop with fall pieces. It's almost time for boots and booties, sweaters and scarves - can I get an amen?! (We seriously love fall. #sorrynotsorry)

I love to reinvent my style with the changing of the seasons, and for Fall, I always gravitate towards boho pieces, especially for that transitional Virginia Fall weather. What's more perfectly boho chic than this floppy felt hat? Paired with these gorgeous plum colored Rag & Bone jeans and a chunky knit sweater, this outfit is ready for crisp mornings and chilly evenings. Who's with us?!

Wyeth Floppy Felt Hat, $65 / Rag & Bone Plum Ombre Jeggings, $69 / Loft Peplum Top, $12 / Costa Blanca Black Knit Open Sweater, $28 / Steve Madden Black Wood Heel Clogs, $34 / Owl Ridge Farmstead Antler Tip Necklace, $42, and Sliced Antler Bracelet, $35
