Dressing Up with Cville Blooms

Linnea White

Last Spring, we interviewed Della Bennett to talk all about how cville BLOOMS got started and her personal style. And this time, to promote the upcoming pop-up shop on 1st Street on Sunday, April 2, we styled Della in two outfits to showcase what a rockstar lady boss she is - day to night. From creating the beautiful arrangements and making deliveries, to attending events in all her lady boss glam, this darling gal is as seriously adorbs as she is seriously cool.

Blooming stories dipped in green topped with those positive V I B E S.

That's how Della described her business in 10 words or less in her interview with us last Spring, and it's still the perfect way to describe the floral arrangements she creates for cville BLOOMS. And this Sunday, for the 1st Street Block Party, you'll get to shop all of her grab-n-go floral arrangements and a wide selection of house plants! Because it's Spring and you need a little green in your (home) life.

Day Della: Fierce Florist Fashion

Daytime Della. Sounds like a super hero. With overalls as her super hero outfit, and scissors as her weapon of choice. Flower Power. It's a thing. And Della is the queen of it.

Night Della: Girl Gets Glam

Nighttime Della sure can get glam. This dress is a little bit retro, a little bit funky (that print!), and a lot a bit spunky. Playing up the '50s vibes of this dress, we threw on some cat eye sunglasses and a vintage snap closure leather handmade clutch. And to modernize the look a bit, like you want to with any vintage-inspired outfit, Della rocked a pair of handmade tassel earrings and her own #darlingfinds - a pair of black booties from last year.

Spring Break Ready: Vacation Essentials

Linnea White

Ignore the flurries that were spotted in Charlottesville today, you Spring Breakers. Get Spring Break ready for that tropical weather with these vacation essentials. Head South, to the land of dragon flies and saltwater breezes.

Just last week, when the temperatures were in the seventies, we took to the streets of Downtown Cville in an outfit ready for Spring Break. This outfit shoot may have taken place in the streets, but it's ready for the BEACH. Palm trees, plz.

These dragonfly pattern shorts by Daughters of the Liberation (Anthropologie) have been calling my name since they came into the shop, and I loved contrasting their girlishness with a boho crochet, fringe hem crop sweater (also by Anthropologie) and Free People bralette underneath. Because showing your bra is all the rage this season. Good thing we just got a few super cute Free People bralettes in the shop, huh?

To play up the tropical, Spring Break vibes, I added a pair of mirrored colorful sunnies and these strappy Jeffrey Campbell block heels. Don't forget your throw-all tote bag for all your adventures and souvenirs, especially a locally made, screen printed "Nasty Woman" tote bag. And, of course, don't forget the simple statement accessories that are easy to pack and can be worn with everything, like this new choker necklace by Free Range and Feral and a few everyday stacking rings by Thicket - locally made, of course.

And since vacation packing means versatility, a jean jacket is the perfect layering piece for any temps. This one my Pilcro & The Letterpress is SO cute and comfortable.

What are your Spring break/vacation essentials?

Black and White: The Overalls Trend

Linnea White

It's everywhere this season - the overalls trend. Not everyone was as cool as me, struttin' around in their Oshkosh overalls back in 93', so in case you missed out on the overalls thing as a kid, don't worry - they're adult friendly now.

I have to admit - I love overalls. The right pair for the right person are for sure adorable. I scored a vintage Levi's pair last Fall at the shop that gave me LIFE, and I can't wait to wear them all Spring long. Sadly, this black vegan leather pair by Free People sold the day I put them on the floor, which just speaks to how hot this trend really is right now. (Don't worry, another pair of Levi's overalls came in this week, size 0, so all you skinny girls, get in here to snag 'em before they're gone.)

Another trend you'll see this season is the come back of a classic black and white ensemble. From color blocking to pattern play, I'm so excited to see this simple, chic look make a statement this season. For an LA/West Coast vibe, I paired these overalls with a relaxed white T-shirt (and my freaking amazing new Frye snakeskin booties) for an outfit that is all play, no work. Add a pair of oversized Lennon sunglasses and understated, crip accessories, all locally made, of course. Can't get enough of the amazing stacking rings by Thicket Jewelry at only $12 a pop, and her new bar studs, too.

What do you think of the overalls trend, darling? How would you rock it?

Winter Layering: Sweater Weather, Part 3

Linnea White

Sometimes a woman's best friend is the softest, coziest, and warmest sweater in her closet. And this chunky knit number is oh-so-perfect for all the Winter layering needs. When a bunch of amazing Free People comes into the shop in one week, I tend to get a little giddy. With an assortment of Winter hats, sweaters, dresses, and tops, it was time to play dress up.

This embroidered short crop Free People sweater is even more stunning in person, with vibrant colors and a dolphin cut hem. For warmth, I layered it with a long, flowy, chunky open sweater for a little proportion play. The extra long sleeves on this sweater gives me life - literally, because it keeps the blood flowing in my fingers, which are always cold in the Winter.

I kept the bottom of this look monotone, pairing neutrals like this taupe pair of Level 99 jeans and Frye Engineer boots. Add a pink lip for a color pop (locally made by Kitsune's Closet, of course) and top it all off with a slouchy beanie for the perfect casual Winter layering style.

How do you like to layer during the Winter months? Get more inspiration from this Sweater Weather series here and here.

Farmer's Market Style: Free People

Linnea White

fpmarketstyle_cover_darling.jpg

There's something magical about Free People style, something that spurs creativity with one look at a dress. This dress came into the shop just moments before our shoot, and in a whirl of inspiration, this outfit was in front of the camera shouting, "Hey, Summer, let's go to the farmer's market!" Cuz every Cville gal needs some farmer's market style.

Inspired by the effervescent Free People boho style and the vintage charm of this straw picnic basket, I put together a look that makes my heart soar to a green pasture filled with blooms and a quilted spread for sky-gazing (sound familiar?). This picnic basket is the perfect basket for picking up blooms and fresh goodies from the city farmer's market on Saturday mornings (right across Water street from our little shop).

This Free People dress is pure sunshine, vibrant and airy, ready for those Summer adventures. With a dress this perfect, keep the accessories simple, throw on a fun lip color, and get ready to frolic. A big sun hat never hurt anyone either.

And that's where our local artisans come in. With a simple(y) stunning necklace by Dinosaur Toes and this engraved "Be Free" brass cuff by Nested Sparrow Designs, the dress was accentuated without getting weighed down with accessories. And we haven't met one hot Summer day that isn't a perfect match for our newest red lipstick by Kitsune's Closet, Fiesta.

Be Free, darling. Be free to buy yourself flowers (and maybe a few tacos and coffee) at the market.
