Dressing Up with Darling: Giving Back is the New Black

Sure, this post may look like a LBD post. But look closer. This week, we're featuring an awesome new product in the store from Sseko Designs - their beautiful, handmade leather bucket bag. Handcrafted in Ethiopia, this is not only a classic bag, but buying it also directly supports women in Ethiopia.

To showcase the bag, I styled it with a simple black knit dress, a pair of killer booties, a pair of our new sunnies, and simple, eye-catching jewelry. But a leather tote can be worn with many styles and in many ways (which you'll see tomorrow on the blog in our tips and tricks post). Buy this gem of a bag at the shop!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? If not the Charlottesville area, what brought you here?

Living in Culpeper, VA. Moved here from Fredericksburg to raise a family in a smaller community.

As a local artisan, describe what you do in town.

I sell at The Charlottesville City Market, every Saturday, from April through November. I also sell to retailers across the globe and online through ETSY and Facebook.

It's story time. Talk about your collaboration with Darling Boutique.

I'm a sensible shopper. I've bought and sold wardrobe pieces from Darling since their opening. It's a perfect fit to have a local spot in Charlottesville, since I'm only there on Saturdays for the Market. Now, you can purchase GDO Designs any day of the week from Darling.

Describe Girls Day Out in 10 words or less.

Fun Fresh Fashion with a Vintage Flair

Where do you go to be creative?

Everywhere! I am fortunate to live in a community rich in heritage. I'm inspired by the colors and textures found outdoors, but always add a feminine touch with brushed gold or matte silver accents.

What aspects of life excite you, stir your affections, fuel your passions, inspire your art?

Anything outdoors. Hiking, skiing in the winter, boating in the Summer. And, travel. It's in my blood - my dad is a pilot.

When and why did you become an artisan? / How did you get into this business?

My entire life. My parents encouraged my creativity. I used to make and sell jewelry and accessories from a young age at their yard sales. My Mother's taught me, why buy it, when you can make it with your own flair.

What are you working on right now?

Feminine delicate Summer styles with faceted framed stones and light weight chain. And, a fun collection of boho wood designs with metallic accents.

Where can someone find your products?

Charlottesville City Market, ETSY, and of course, Darling Boutique!
