High Fashion Fall | Dressing Up with Darling

Linnea White

MG_57851.jpg

New York Fashion Week may have just ended, but we're definitely feeling a little high fashion this Fall. With the Garrett Street mural as our backdrop, we took this outfit to a new level of fashion. This outfit started with the Gary Graham silk skirt, a piece with the "rebel courage" and romantic edge the brand is known for. With a pair of sky high heels and a retro patterned blouse, this outfit screamed art. Add the gorgeous L.A.M.B. leather bag for added cool. Top knot not included.

Dressing Up with Darling: Beaded with a Purpose

Linnea White

MG_4640.jpg

Our darling intern, Emma, is nearly 6 feet tall and all-the-way gorgeous. We were excited to style her for this week's Dressing Up with Darling post, featuring a basic summer outfit with fun details and accessorized to the max.

These beaded accessories are brand new at Darling, and have such a beautiful story behind them. Handmade in Uganda, the beaded necklaces, bracelets, sandals, earrings, and bags support the adoption of two little boys by a local couple here in Charlottesville. One hundred percent of each item purchased from this collection supports the adoption. Stay tuned for an upcoming pop up shop event featuring even more from this amazing couple in early August!

Linnea White

Midsummer. That time of year when the days are long and the evening sun is the perfect time for a picnic. Relief from the heat of the day, and enough daylight for an evening with friends. Last week, we put together two summer outfits for an impromptu midsummer's eve picnic in the backyard. Long maxi skirts, lightweight fabrics, dreamy hues, and delicate jewelry made for the perfect summer picnic ensemble. Don't forget a throw-all straw bag for your picnic essentials!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? If not the Charlottesville area, what brought you here?

Living in Culpeper, VA. Moved here from Fredericksburg to raise a family in a smaller community.

As a local artisan, describe what you do in town.

I sell at The Charlottesville City Market, every Saturday, from April through November. I also sell to retailers across the globe and online through ETSY and Facebook.

It's story time. Talk about your collaboration with Darling Boutique.

I'm a sensible shopper. I've bought and sold wardrobe pieces from Darling since their opening. It's a perfect fit to have a local spot in Charlottesville, since I'm only there on Saturdays for the Market. Now, you can purchase GDO Designs any day of the week from Darling.

Describe Girls Day Out in 10 words or less.

Fun Fresh Fashion with a Vintage Flair

Where do you go to be creative?

Everywhere! I am fortunate to live in a community rich in heritage. I'm inspired by the colors and textures found outdoors, but always add a feminine touch with brushed gold or matte silver accents.

What aspects of life excite you, stir your affections, fuel your passions, inspire your art?

Anything outdoors. Hiking, skiing in the winter, boating in the Summer. And, travel. It's in my blood - my dad is a pilot.

When and why did you become an artisan? / How did you get into this business?

My entire life. My parents encouraged my creativity. I used to make and sell jewelry and accessories from a young age at their yard sales. My Mother's taught me, why buy it, when you can make it with your own flair.

What are you working on right now?

Feminine delicate Summer styles with faceted framed stones and light weight chain. And, a fun collection of boho wood designs with metallic accents.

Where can someone find your products?

Charlottesville City Market, ETSY, and of course, Darling Boutique!
