Summer Style Inspo: Brights & Basics

Linnea White

This outfit is all about the summer style inspo: brights & basics. Earlier this week, we talked about Summer neutrals and lightweight fabrics for the hotter weather. Today, it's all about mixing those basics and neutrals with those prints and brights to keep your wardrobe fresh all Summer long. So, cover your bases, darlings, and get mix-and-match crazy this Summer.

The Brights

Expect to see yellow and pink everywhere this Summer. Solids, brights, florals, patterns, you name it. They're even calling it "millennial pink," like, huh? And neon is always in, especially when you're tan, because you will feel Brazilian AF.

The Basics

From basic, neutral-hued tops to pants to shoes to bags - these are your Summer essentials. From black to tan to bright white or cream, get your basics ready for monochromatic fierceness or mix-and-matching heaven (which is basically where this outfit took us).

You can't go wrong with Birkenstocks in the Summer. They're basically THE sandal for Summer. Rock them in classic black or brown, or go for a bolder statement with metallics or bright white. And you'll be surprised by the amount of ways they can be worn - even with a sexy pencil skirt outfit.

P.S. Funny story about this outfit. The day after we did the photo shoot, Jess from the salon across the street came in and said, "I saw you in that green skirt outfit yesterday. I want the whole thing." So she proceeded to buy the top and the skirt! Definitely pays to parade around Downtown Charlottesville in these outfits - it's walking sales (literally).

Shop Girl Style: The Everyday Jumpsuit

Linnea White

I've been talking about my shop girl style lately, because I'm basically a living, breathing walking and talking version of Darling. I love to wear my #darlingfinds, and not only shop (almost) solely at the shop, but I also regularly consign clothing from my closet - in with the new and out with the no-longer-wearables-or-want-t0-wearables. And right now, I'm obsessed with the everyday jumpsuit.

Even though this jumpsuit isn't from the shop (cue shock and horror!), when I wore it the first time at the shop one Saturday, I had over 20 people ask me about it. I think J. Crew owes me a gift card or something, because I can guarantee I got them a few sales on this bad boy from wearing it around my shop.

In addition to my jumpsuit obsession (I can't stop, won't stop), I have a Lotta's addiction, which we've touched on before. They're my go-to shop girl shoes, and this pair is probably my most loved pair - a.k.a. very, very worn. But I love these clogs, and wear them with a wild variety of outfits, including jumpsuits. Always jumpsuits.

And when a jumpsuit just isn't enough fun for one day, add a pair of pom earrings - maybe my favorite trend this season. Why? Because they are so joyful, and literally make any outfit a party.

So get yourself some party pants and party earrings, ladies. Because everyday pieces should be all the way fun.

Spring Style Trends: Off-the-Shoulder Tops & Wide Leg Jeans

Linnea White

Spring weekends are made for frolicking, and this outfit is rocking some of the biggest Spring style trends. From the off the shoulder craze to the wide leg culotte length jeans phenom, this outfit is ready to hit the Spring scene with a burst of zeal. Bring it on, Spring! Wide leg jeans are making my LIFE right now. That culotte length is easily pulled of, when styled right for your body type. I could have sported this pair with some heels to give me a little boost in height, but I wanted to show how to dress down the look for weekend adventures. And these Nike kicks were the perfect way to do just that.

I'm also jumping for joy over this off-the-shoulder top, because dang. Showing off a little shoulder, ladies, it's the new sexy. And it is also so darn cute! Keep your neck bare for a clean look, and let the top (and your skin/shoulders/collarbone) do the talking. A pair of statement earrings is the perfect way to accent this trending neckline, especially in a bright hue for the warm season.

How would you rock these Spring style trends, darling?

Electric Feel: Finding Your Power Dress & Power Color

Linnea White

Today, we're talking about the Power Dress and finding your Power Color, because #friyay. This may be one of my favorite shoots to date with Tristan, and it's mostly because of this dress - which might have definitely gone home with me the same day. The mood and joy he captured of me in this dress is exactly why it went home with me. And exactly why it is my Power Dress.

The Power Dress

When you find YOUR Power Dress, you just know. It makes you feel electric, charged with confidence and beauty, strength and joy. And that's how this dress made me feel - a true form of myself. This pattern is what I think my insides look like. (That sounded way cooler in my head.) The ruched bodice, flowy fabric, midi hemline, and rich, bold colors paint a beautiful story, evoking whimsy, joy, confidence, grace, elegance, intrigue, and FUN. And those are exactly the words I would use to describe my Power Dress.

Now, when thinking about your Power Dress, what words come to mind? Write them down, ponder them, and then find a dress not that just meets the criteria, but that makes you FEEL that way in the dress.

Finding Your Power Color

There are a thousand articles on how to identify your own personal "Power Colors" based on your skin tone, eye color, hair color, etc., but I like to think style isn't about a specific set of rules. I break the "fashion rules" all the time (like wearing white pants whenever the heck I want to), because when it comes to style, rules are more like guidelines, and it should be an expression of self anyways!

Sure, you can take a quiz to identify your power colors, or go-to colors, or you can just ask yourself a few questions: "What colors do you just love looking at? What colors make you happy? What colors do you look like a certified fox in?" Another good question to ask yourself: "What colors do I buy that I never end up wearing? What colors wash me out?" Just like those Power Dress words, write them down, consider them, and find out what colors you naturally gravitate towards, and complement your personal style. That's your power color.

For me, one of my power colors is electric blue. It's been a favorite color of mine since I was a little girl, and the more vibrant the hue, the more I'm drawn to it. When these shoes and bag came in the same week as this dress, it's like the Power Color was calling me to, saying, "Plug it in and change the world, because you're an electric girl."

Be Boldly BeYOUtiful. Dress Confidently. Chin Up. Walk with Dignity and Strength and Joy.

What's your power dress style, darling? Or, what's your go-to power color?

NYE Outfit: Chic Sparkle to Ring in the New Year

Linnea White

We're one week away from New Year's Eve, and that means it's almost time to count down to midnight and bellow "Old Lang Syne" in that perfect little sparkly NYE outfit with friends and family, ringing in 2017 with good cheer!

What's more perfect for NYE than a little black dress decked out in sequins with the on-trend cold shoulder look. To keep the dress chic (and not overtly sexy), we threw on a classic black trench coat, adding length to an otherwise mini cut. Paired with a colorful pair of pumps and a red lip, side swept hair and simple threader studs, this look is certain catch the eye of a special someone for the midnight smooch.

Thanks to the sparkling lights of the Downtown Mall's Christmas tree for a splendid backdrop! And a little extra tinsel garland just for fun.

We’ve been talking Holiday Style, featuring darling outfits for your holiday party season. What's your favorite way to get snazzy for that soirée?
