Shop Girl Style: Evolving Style & Rotating Closet

Linnea White

When you get an amazing jacket for $4, your life changes forever. Okay, maybe not your WHOLE life, but for that moment, you're pretty proud of yourself. At least if you're a consignment shopper like this shop girl. Since becoming the owner of a consignment shop, my personal style has evolved - constantly and cyclically. My combined passion for sustainable fashion and affordable style breeds a healthy (I think) obsession with an evolving style & rotating closet kinda life.

Over the past year alone, my personal style has evolved, transformed, and, almost weekly, rotated. I dress by mood most days, and I go through phases with certain colors, silhouettes, or clothing items. I've also had a considerable body transformation over the past two years that's allowed me to really sweep my closet of ill-fitting garments I no longer want to wear or can't wear anymore.

Through my style evolution, one thing is a constant - and that's comfort. I have to be comfortable at the shop, working long 8-10 hour days, and on my feet most of the time. That's where my Lotta's come in. This ain't no sponsored post. This is the real deal love for an item of clothing that changed your life, and that's my clogs. Two years ago when I bought the store, I bought two pairs of Lotta clogs, and they have been my staple shop girl shoe. Who knew a wooden clog could be so comfortable?!

But comfort doesn't mean sacrificing style, and I swear my hair transformation this year has emboldened me to be more eclectic than I think I've ever been. Learning to be smart with proportions and color palettes, textures and patterns, has been an adventure for me. And I hope to keep improving and learning so I can become the stylist I dream of being not just for myself, but for all the darlings out there.

Velvet Crush, Part 2

Linnea White

We've already discussed our love of this sultry, regal fabric, but the pieces keep coming in, week after week, and we can't get enough of our Velvet Crush. (Seriously, though, expect a Part 3 soon, and counting.)

This Betsey Johnson dress is sugar and spice and everything nice. The velvet fabric is patterned with rich floral greens and plums, and an empire waist that gives it a vintage flare. Add a pair of classic structured heels by Seychelles and a leather choker, another Fall trend we can't get enough of at the shop, and this outfit is a chic little Fall ensemble, filled with whimsy and charisma.

Can't wait to show you Part 3 of this little Velvet Crush series! What do you think it will be?

The Statement Choker

Linnea White

In honor of Throw Back Thursday (#tbt) and this current trend, I styled a Fall outfit that incorporates one of our many leather chokers available in the shop. The statement choker is in this season, in a big way, and this arrowhead choker has us feeling like a boho goddess, courtesy of Free Range & Feral.

The rich mulberry color of the leather choker pulls out the beautiful hues in this flowy Anthropologie blouse, and, of course, was the perfect match with our very own Kitsune's Closet Mulberry lipstick. These super soft, distressed AG jeans are the perfect relaxed fit to wear from season to season. Add a pair of easy booties and a light jacket for the crisp Fall weather.

How will you wear the choker trend this season?

Modern Minimalism & Cool Culottes

Linnea White

MG_7019_cropped.jpg

Minimalist fashion is a crisp, cool breath of fresh air. From clever cuts to lovely construction, modern minimalism doesn't give it all away immediately, and it certainly isn't boring. Don't get me wrong - I love prints and boho, free-spirited fashion. But there's something refreshing and chic about crisp solids and structural clothing. The minimalistic look may look ultra chic, but it really requires minimal effort. It's about finding well-tailored clothing in interesting shapes and solid colors to create a modern, cool look.

And a pair of white culottes (like this pair by Rebecca Taylor) is the minimalist dream. This wide-legged look has proven itself more than a trend. Though many stay away from this tricky silhouette, the sheer versatility and ease of the culotte is reason enough to find the right ones for you.

Modern Minimalism & Cool Culottes

For this look, I paired the white culottes with a matching pastel blue Rebecca Taylor vest, a simple crop top, and minimal accessories.  A tip for wearing culottes is to the pants do the talking. Pair the voluminous bottoms with clean, simple accessories, flats or simple heels, and neutral colors.

For accessories, I combined not two but three of our local jewelers --- simple hoops by Little Paper Crane, brass rhinestone cuff by dinosaur toes, and brass love cuff by Nested Sparrow. And of course, any look wouldn't be complete without finishing touches of locally made lipstick and nail polish by Kitsune's Closet.

What does modern minimalism look like for you?
