Spring Florals and Flats: Flirty Style

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking. - The Devil Wears Prada

Ok, so, Spring florals may not be new, trendy, or groundbreaking, but they sure are cute and the perfect way to brighten your wardrobe with that Spring-spiration (proud of that pun, y'all).

A touch of floral makes the day bright, and the outfit right (I've had too much caffeine, clearly). We love the contrast of a classic, tailored pant with the boho sleeves and flowy fabric of this white blouse. Talk about easy, breezy, CoverGirl. The Charlie ankle pant from Anthropologie is a classic style, and they've produced it in a variety of patterns or colors of the years. This pair's pink and orange floral pop on that green base.

I about died when the J. Crew flats came in to the shop in the same hue of orange. Fun flats for Spring are pouring in to the shop, and so worth finding the perfect pair for your foot. Make sure they're comfortable and not just good-lookin'!

Don't forget to add a pink lip and a bolder fuchsia nail color as you move boldly into your Spring wardrobe. It's time! Seize the Spring day!

Black and White: The Overalls Trend

Linnea White

It's everywhere this season - the overalls trend. Not everyone was as cool as me, struttin' around in their Oshkosh overalls back in 93', so in case you missed out on the overalls thing as a kid, don't worry - they're adult friendly now.

I have to admit - I love overalls. The right pair for the right person are for sure adorable. I scored a vintage Levi's pair last Fall at the shop that gave me LIFE, and I can't wait to wear them all Spring long. Sadly, this black vegan leather pair by Free People sold the day I put them on the floor, which just speaks to how hot this trend really is right now. (Don't worry, another pair of Levi's overalls came in this week, size 0, so all you skinny girls, get in here to snag 'em before they're gone.)

Another trend you'll see this season is the come back of a classic black and white ensemble. From color blocking to pattern play, I'm so excited to see this simple, chic look make a statement this season. For an LA/West Coast vibe, I paired these overalls with a relaxed white T-shirt (and my freaking amazing new Frye snakeskin booties) for an outfit that is all play, no work. Add a pair of oversized Lennon sunglasses and understated, crip accessories, all locally made, of course. Can't get enough of the amazing stacking rings by Thicket Jewelry at only $12 a pop, and her new bar studs, too.

What do you think of the overalls trend, darling? How would you rock it?

Casual Friday: Borrowing from the Boys

Linnea White

It's Casual Friday, and we're borrowing from the boys for this easy weekend look. This up-and-down Spring weather has us thinking about simple pieces, styled well, and these Anthropologie pieces certainly style well.

How to Borrow from the Boys

"Borrowing from the boys doesn’t always mean literally wearing men's clothing,"Banana Republic's Marissa Webb says (in a guide to borrowing from the boys on WhoWhatWear). "It's about contrast and proportions."

One of the staple pieces to "borrow" and inspire a menswear look is the boyfriend button up shirt. This Cloth & Stone plaid button up from Anthropologie is the perfect touch of boyish charm and soft, feminine detail (that gauzy fabric is so soft and all the YES).

Another key piece to consider: the relaxed khaki pant. Look no further than Anthropologie's "Hyphen Fit" chino pant by Pilcro & The Letterpress. Super soft and slightly relaxed, they are the perfect casual pant for weekend adventures - and they come in a huge variety of colors. Wear with a simple tee tucked in just right, or button it up and toss on a blazer.

Let your personality speak when borrowing from the boys. Maybe a silk scarf worn as tie, a tailored blazer, or a chunky, oversized sweater. It's playful, and meant to be fun, so let it be just that - casual, flirty, and fun. Add a pair of unisex sunnies, like these classic Wayfarer style ones, and keep the accessories minimal and clean.

What does a weekend menswear inspired outfit look like for you, darling?

Velvet Blues, Part 3: Backstage Pass

Linnea White

DSCF8171_cropped.jpg

I've got the velvet blues. This outfit is so cool, I can't even handle. Fur, fringe, and flares combined with this vibrant velvet color is nothing short of fierce. This outfit combines several trending styles of the season, from flares and fringe, from velvet to fur, playing up the best of each in a bohemian rhapsody Queen would be proud of.

I felt like a rockstar hanging out backstage behind The Jefferson with my photog in tow - the uber talented Tristan Williams. The urban, gritty background was perfect for the throwback style of this seventies rocker vibe. The effect may harken back to older times, but the pieces worn are contemporary trends of today. Fashion is cyclical, after all.

It didn't take much to get inspired after these pants came into the shop. A simple silk cami under the faux fur jacket topped it off, and locally made accessories completed the overall look --- the crescent moon necklace, fringe leather clutch, and quartz knuckle ring. This outfit thrives on unique pieces that speak loudly when in unison, a harmonious effect perfectly fitting for this rockstar outfit's alley lit ballad.
