Coffee Date Style | How to Wear Spring Layers

Linnea White

When Spring doesn't look or feel like Spring, and the chilly days linger a little too long, don't let the weather steal your Spring vibes. Play with romantic layers and lacy textures this season to keep the ethereal magic of Spring alive. It's the ideal palette for rainy day coffee date style. For this rainy day Spring look, we visited one of our favorite spots on the mall - The Pie Chest. Not only are we pie addicts (I think I've tried just about every one), but we're also coffee addicts, and there's no place that makes us a better brew than Milli Coffee Roasters. The cute shop is the coziest getaway from the chilly rain, and a crisp backdrop for this outfit.

Romantic vibes are big this season, from the runway to the sale rack. And this lacy kimono is the perfect layering piece for those chilly Spring days, all while keeping that ethereal, romantic vibe. This flowy Maeve Anthropologie blouse in such a rich teal hue is a gorgeous compliment to the cream lace. And with rainy, 50 degree days in May (we can't even), these cutout suede booties are an easy addition to just about any Spring outfit. (Find some booties style inspiration here.)

This outfit is pretty much all about the accessories, though, featuring so many beautiful new arrivals from our local artisans in the shop. From the necklace to the earrings to the cuffs, the new pieces by Free Range & Feral is absolutely stunning in all its boho glory. And the leather handmade foldover clutch by Petaline is available in a variety of fabric/leather combinations. Not to be forgotten, the finishing touches on every outfit - locally made cosmetics by Kitsune’s Closet. Because what's a coffee date without the perfect lipstick stain on your mug?

This week, we want to take a moment to introduce ourselves. Today and tomorrow, get to know the new owners of Darling Boutique! First up, Linnea White. You may know her from the style series Dressing Up with Darling. As the editor of Cville Niche, Linnea and former owner Elizabeth Steel launched the collaboration back in October 2013. Now, as the new co-owner of Darling, she's ready to take the Dressing Up series to new fashion blog heights.

Hometown?

Born in Ithaca, NY. Formative childhood years in Manassas, VA. High school season of life in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Charlottesville, VA ever since 2006! Go Hoos!

Describe yourself in 5 syllables or less.

Serendipity ["I dwell in possibility." - Emily Dickinson]

Favorite item from Darling?

If I had to pick just one, I'd probably say the Michael Kors gold watch I snagged on Facebook the minute a picture went live. It was a hot item, and getting my dream watch practically new was a BIG deal. Now I can tell time! (Obviously, something I couldn't do without the watch.)

I've been a consigner and avid shopper at Darling since 2013. It's surreal to now be on the other side! But I'm so blessed with this opportunity, and can't wait to see where Megan and I take this well-loved community.

Shopping weakness?

Dresses. I will never think I have enough dresses. Dressed up with heels or dressed down with Converses, layered and worn from season to season, dresses are most definitely my weakness.

Name one go-to clothing item or accessory.

My J. Crew tan leather booties. I can't think of an outfit I haven't tried to wear them with and succeeded. They're comfy, cute, and super versatile. An investment I'm happy I made.

Stripes or polka dots?

Both! Maybe even together! I'm a big fan of pattern play, color combinations, and feminine shapes when it comes to fashion.

PERSONAL STYLE MANTRA.

Fashion is an expression of your heart.

Playing dress up and experimenting with different styles is all a part of how you learn to express yourself and develop a personal style. Take the time each morning to pray and reflect on your blessings, to give thanks, to look in the mirror and see yourself how God sees you. When you are restored from the inside out, your true beauty will shine through in everything you do, and in everything you wear.

If I gave you $10 to buy yourself a treat in Cville, how would you spend it?

I'd grab a dirty chai latte AND a waffle with Nutella at Milli Joe. All the things I love wrapped up in one pretty package - coffee, chocolate, and carbs. [Side note: I blame Megan for getting me hooked on dirty chai lattes, and I blame my sister for getting be hooked on Nutella after her time in Florence (back in 2000, guys, before it was even cool in the states). ]

Song(s) Currently On Repeat?

I have a few songs I've been drawn to the past months, including "Multiplied," by Needtobreathe, "Diamonds," by Johnnyswim, "No Longer Slaves," by Bethel Music, and anything off the new Lone Bellow album.

Currently Watching: TV/Netflix/Hulu. Go.

OBSESSED with Jane the Virgin right now. Not at all ashamed of that. It's a great show. Heartbroken that Parenthood ended. HEARTBROKEN. I binge watch Netflix like it's my part time job. Currently watching Gilmore Girls, House of Cards, and any period piece TV show or movie I can find (the English major in me can't help it). Anticipation is high for the return of Orange is the New Black.

You won a ticket to anywhere in the world. Where are you going and why?

Sweden. It's been my dream to travel to a country where my ancestors lived, to connect with my roots and see the world. I've never been across the Atlantic! It'd also be pretty nice to be in a country where people know how to pronounce my name (Linnea is a Swedish name). Maybe I'll even find the Swedish wild flower I'm named after! Dreams, ya'll.
