Valentine's Day Outfit: Pink vs. Red

Linnea White

vdaycollage.jpg

It's Valentine's Day, darlings, and that means it's time for an epic battle of love (right?). We styled two Valentine's Day outfits for two kinds of gals - the Lady in Red or Pretty in Pink (a.k.a. 80's Barbie). From sugar to spice, we've got that last minute VDay outfit inspiration you need.

P.S. I went a little crazy with a lavender hair toner to see what would happen, and had a little temporary lilac hue going when we did this shoot! This hair makeover is giving me LIFE these days. Once you go platinum white, you never go back... right?

Pretty in Pink

I felt like a cupcake in this dress - in the best way possible. All the girly vibes had me ready for an 80's themed VDay party. I added my vegan leather jacket to edge up the look a bit, and a pair of new sunnies for that extra touch of glam. Don't forget a locally made lipstick in hot pink!

Lady in Red

Silk = sexy. This silk DVF dress is SO va-va-voom, I was swooning as soon as it touched my skin. For the spicier gal, this dress is made to show off some curves, and light up the room in the crisp red hue. With a dress this sexy, keep the accessories simple and understated. I opted for a pair of tassel earrings by Pan&Tea, a classic (locally made) red lipstick, and a side swept 'do to add a touch of elegance. And just because, threw my Anthropologie leather jacket over my shoulders again for that finishing statement piece.

The Moto Jacket: How to Wear Blush Pink

Linnea White

It's Valentine's weekend, and this outfit has me blushing in blush pink. The duality of this flirty, feminine look lies in the moto jacket - adding a touch of edge to an otherwise sweet outfit, while also softening the black base with a soft, pale pink hue. It's sugar and spice, and everything nice.

Working the Moto Jacket

I've been waiting for an outfit that would let me work that "editor drape" with a structured jacket for a laidback-chic look. And this moto jacket from Loft was the perfect piece to pull it off. I love how the architecture of the jacket plays with the soft velvet and suede bottoms, and textured knit of the strapless Free People top. Soft and tough playing together in an effortless way (especially with those soft curls!).

This outfit has me blushing from more than just the fabric. Working with Tristan Williams for the blog has been a treat, and this shoot wow-ed me. This guy is a mega talented photographer, and after my recent hair makeover, I was stunned at how he captured the new hair, the outfit, the whole essence of the look. Props to Tristan, y'all.

How to Wear Blush Pink this Spring

Blush pink has me all sorts of excited for Spring. Blush is a sophisticated, endearing, elegant shade of pink, which normally isn't a color I'm drawn to. And don't be fooled - whether you have the skin tone or the right hair color to pair with blush hues, you can wear it, and work it. How can you wear blush pink, you ask? Take a note from this outfit for a few key tips to wearing blush hues this Spring.

  • Pair it with colors that flatter your skin tone. Blush pink may not be one of your colors, but it certainly pairs with a lot of other colors. Try it with navy, black, chocolate, olive green, charcoal grey, oxblood, teal, plum, or even deep lavender - rich tones to balance out the muted, washed out tone of blush. Warm or cool colors pair well with this accent color.
  • Anchor it. Keep blush rooted in your outfit to avoid the washed out, light qualities. Pairing it with dark colors is a way to anchor it, and so it wearing a blush piece (like this jacket) with an elongating base (like these black leggings).
  • Accessorize like a lady. If wearing a blush top or piece next to your face won't do with your skin tone, try adding it to your look with accent pieces - bags, shoes, belts, etc. It makes for a stunning leather accessory, neutral in its shade and easily workable into many outfits.

Platinum Hair: New Year, New Me

Linnea White

I've wanted to do this for a year. I've been baby-stepping my way towards it since June. I've been dreaming about going white, and I finally took the (first) step towards platinum hair last week in a daring Darling Makeover. Because #newyearnewme, or whatever.

And WOAH, is it different. I love it. I love how it has already begun to change my personal style choices, color choices, and makeup choices. I opted for a pastel hued look for this first reveal of the new color, playing with soft lavender and blue anchored by dark wash high-waisted jeans and simple lace up booties.

I'm not quite there yet. I still have some yellow tones in my hair I want OUT - solely cool hues, please. My white out hair inspiration has deep roots, a craving I must satiate (see this, this, this, this, this, this, and this - just for a start, because I'm obsessed). And I will not be stopped until I reach my white hair goals for that true Winter ice out. To be continued... the journey to white hair has begun!

Big smooches to my girl Sarah Hatch of At Last for being such a boss and always giving me the darling makeover I need. She's amazing, y'all. And I can't wait to be back in her chair again for more of this amazingness.

For tips on how to care for platinum hair, stay tuned! I'll be doing a round up of some great products out there for all the platinum babes. Blue shampoo is your best friend (but don't go overboard, like I did once - #whoops).

What do you think of the white/silver hair trend?

Going West in the Shearling Vest

Linnea White

We're going west(ern) with this faux shearling vest - the perfect layering piece for this transitional autumn weather. Because vest weather is upon us.

Shearling lined vests will forever be fashionable, says I, because they're comfortable, versatile, and chic. Fashionable and functional, the right vest can be worn as an extra layer under a jacket, or by itself for a lighter layer. Find one that fits your frame, and wear it close to your heart. Try layering it with soft, flowy fabrics for contrast, like this boho pattern dress or a floral number, or wear it over denim and a sweater for a casual, daytime cozy look.

Another Fall necessity for every darling gal - the lace up bootie. These leather beauties by Madewell carry the lug sole with a more Victorian heel and shape, perfect for dressing up or dressing down.

And if you aren't wearing tassels yet this season, get on that train - and do it all while supporting locally made jewelry. New artisan in the shop, Pan & Tea, is killing the fiber tassel game, from necklaces to earrings, she's your gal.

How are you styling vests this season? Loving the tassel trend as much as us?
