How to Style a Vintage Dress: Shop Girl Style

Linnea White

This is my unicorn dress. Isn't it magical? A few weeks ago, the shop hosted an Earth Day pop-up shop with Two Scoops Vintage, and I found some amazing vintage pieces - including this dress and umbrella. Naturally, we took to the streets on the rainy day for a little shoot to show how to style a vintage dress.

Styling vintage should be fun - taking pieces from another time, another life, and translating them for a modern context. When it comes to vintage dresses, you can play up the retro vibes in the styling, or you can make it more modern by deconstructing the look and adding contemporary pieces - especially in the accessories.

When I found this incredible dress, it fit like a glove, and I couldn't get over the bright colors with my white hair. Unicorn status. I paired the dress with two current trends I was already wearing that day in the shop - my new-to-me white sneakers and J. Crew pom earrings. I almost tried a different belt/scarf combo with the dress to give it a more modern edge, but ended up going with the original belt to play up the retro vibes of this vintage look.

And to quote one of my favorite movies of all time, Singing in the Rain...

"Kathy: This California dew's a little heavier than usual tonight...

Don: Oh really? From where I stand, the sun is shining all over the place..."

Cue the song and dance!

P.S. This photo shoot is one of my favorite shoots Tristan has ever done. That jumping picture was one take, and he nailed it. I love when I get to be a dancer again on shoots! I hope it brings you as much joy as it did when I first saw that picture!

What do you think, darlings? How do you like to rock vintage pieces?

Bomber Jacket Outfit Inspiration

Linnea White

The bomber jacket is as hot as a toast right now. (Toast is also very hot right now, just ask avocado.) And on this rainy day in Charlottesville, we're rocking this Anthropologie bomber jacket outfit for a little urban street style inspiration.

Since we've established the bomber jacket is hot as the gate's of Hell right now, it's really not about whether we like that this is a trend or not. It's about how to style it. And the bomber jacket is quite surprisingly very versatile. From sporty chic athleisure to urban street style, there are many ways to wear the bomber.

Since it's pretty obvious bombers can be sported with jeans or pants in a variety of ways, we went for a little bolder take on how to wear the bomber jacket - with a dress (and not a fitted one, at that). This maxi dress is the perfect pairing, with the button up front, it allows for a little skin to show and create a nice visual line from head to toe, keeping the look long and lean.

And since we didn't have a pair of white kicks to add to the look available in the shop at the time (cuz those are also hot as ten thousand suns right now), we went for a little pattern play with this floral pair. Cuz pattern play makes this look even radder.

What do you think of the bomber jacket trend, darling? How would you style the bomber?

Spring Style Trends, Part 2: Gingham Get-ups

Linnea White

From off-the-shoulder tops and wide leg pants, to gingham get-ups and slide sandals, we're talking about Spring Style Trends on the blog, showcasing how you can rock the latest trends AND shop secondhand at the same time.

Gingham is back this Spring in a big way, and when this made in Korea gingham shirtdress came in to the shop, I knew it needed to be featured. Slides (and mules) are also trending this season, and these white slide sandals added a bit of chill to this otherwise buttoned up look.

And what's better than a pair of statement sunnies for finishing a head-to-toe look? These Twiggy-inspired sunnies are so over-the-top, they actually work. And looking like a bug is also super big this season, just FYI/ICYMI, so why the heck not?

I call this my Iris Apfel-inspired look, or my fly-on-the-wall look. Either way, it's effortlessly cool, and insanely comfy - a combo I can fully support. Especially for the weekend, and this outfit is owning all the weekend vibes, right down to the people watching and window lounging.

How are you rocking gingham this Spring, darling?

P.S. As I mentioned before, this is my new hair cut, and it's just so good. Who else feels like a fresh chop in the Springtime is the BEST?!
