Spring Style Inspiration: Lilac Grey

Linnea White

Spring is starting to sprout here in the shop, with new Spring arrivals sprinkling in and blushed, flushed Spring hues scattering the racks. And we're having a serious moment with Lilac Grey right now.

This entire outfit was inspired by the arrival of locally made, small batch nail polish in Lilac Grey. This color is perfect for transitioning to Spring (and so is grey). So are layers. And this outfit embraces Spring hues and Spring layers in darling fashion.

This lilac hued floral dress by American Eagle's latest brand offshoot - Don't Ask Why - is perfect for transitioning into Spring. Add a sweater or jacket for an easy layered look, like this cozy light grey Loft one. And why not keep it sassy with an equally cozy felt hat from Free People, and a pair of grey booties from Madewell. Oh, and of course, because matchy matchy, this locally made leather choker was the perfect lilac hue for pairing with this look.

What are some of your favorite Spring hue color combinations?

Coffee Date Style | How to Wear Spring Layers

Linnea White

MG_7081.jpg

When Spring doesn't look or feel like Spring, and the chilly days linger a little too long, don't let the weather steal your Spring vibes. Play with romantic layers and lacy textures this season to keep the ethereal magic of Spring alive. It's the ideal palette for rainy day coffee date style. For this rainy day Spring look, we visited one of our favorite spots on the mall - The Pie Chest. Not only are we pie addicts (I think I've tried just about every one), but we're also coffee addicts, and there's no place that makes us a better brew than Milli Coffee Roasters. The cute shop is the coziest getaway from the chilly rain, and a crisp backdrop for this outfit.

Romantic vibes are big this season, from the runway to the sale rack. And this lacy kimono is the perfect layering piece for those chilly Spring days, all while keeping that ethereal, romantic vibe. This flowy Maeve Anthropologie blouse in such a rich teal hue is a gorgeous compliment to the cream lace. And with rainy, 50 degree days in May (we can't even), these cutout suede booties are an easy addition to just about any Spring outfit. (Find some booties style inspiration here.)

This outfit is pretty much all about the accessories, though, featuring so many beautiful new arrivals from our local artisans in the shop. From the necklace to the earrings to the cuffs, the new pieces by Free Range & Feral is absolutely stunning in all its boho glory. And the leather handmade foldover clutch by Petaline is available in a variety of fabric/leather combinations. Not to be forgotten, the finishing touches on every outfit - locally made cosmetics by Kitsune’s Closet. Because what's a coffee date without the perfect lipstick stain on your mug?

Spring Layers to the Max(i)

Linnea White

MG_6384.jpg

On days like today, it's all a girl can do to wear clever Spring layers. Early Spring in Virginia can be a tricky transitional season to dress for, and that's where smart layering comes in.

Once again, this look started with a statement piece - this maxi skirt from Anthropologie. From the pattern to the tassel ties, this skirt is a beauty. The J. Crew anorak jacket was next, dressing down the skirt and giving the look a layer for the chilly Spring temperatures. For a pop of color, this J. Crew tank top paired perfectly with one of the newest lip colors from Kitsune's Closet, Fiesta, a bright orangey-red perfect for the warmer weather ahead. Add some simple accessories by Dinosaur Toes and this classic Madewell leather bag for a look ready for any Spring day.

Darling, You’ve Got Style: Spring Layers Done Right

Linnea White

This Spring has been all over the place. Chilly day, rainy days, and nearly 80 degree days. Time to learn how to layer like a pro! It's important to first acknowledge that "layered" does not mean "bulky." Don't be afraid to layer your clothes for fear of looking "bigger." Knowing how to layer well means knowing how to compliment your body type and how to work multiple pieces into one look. It should be fun, not feared!

Tips and Tricks to the Perfectly Layered Spring Outfit

  • The Base: Start with a basic layer. Try a fitted base to define your shape. Play around with solids, neutrals, or patterns (think stripes!).
  • The Middle Layer: Add a soft cardigan or sweater. Play around with texture - flowy and draped or chunky and knit. Be bold and throw on a bright or patterned pullover for this layer, giving your outfit that little bit of whimsy.
  • The Top Layer: Finish off the look with a jacket, vest, or lightweight coat. Denim jackets, olive green vests and anorak jackets, classic trenches, black leather jackets --- the options are endless. This top layer pulls together the whole look, so if you've gone with a striped base and a bold pullover, this layer may be best in a neutral or solid color.
  • The Icing on the Cake: Throw on a scarf! The easiest of all layers for Spring, and necessary for warmth on those chillier days.

Remember:

  • Have fun!
  • The top and middle layer can easily be shed if the days warms or the night chills. Try creating an outfit where the pieces can be interchangeable depending on the temperature.
  • Length and proportion should be top priorities as you layer.
  • Add a belt to top off your look if you want to define your waistline!
  • And most definitely play around with texture. Mixing the clothing materials in each layer definitely helps keep the outfit from getting weighted down or "bulky."

You may not get it right the first time around, but keep trying! A perfectly layered Spring outfit is most definitely worth it.
