Happy Summer, Y'all: Copper Tones

Linnea White

bonjouryall6_darling.jpg

Summer is officially here, y'all, and I'm beckoning in the hot days ahead with copper tones and top knots, short shorts and screen print tanks. And now that Summer is here, I'm fully embracing coppers, bronzes, brasses, and golds - the warm, sun-kissed hues of Summer. From new metallic shades of nail polish (coming soon to the shop!) to jewelry and accessories, this season, embrace the golden tones of Summer in all their glory. But don't forget your Coppertone (pun intended)!

Currently obsessed with... the list is long, darlings, especially because I'm loving the half-up top knot style with my newly chopped hair. Currently obsessed with the screen print tanks and totes by local artisan Dinosaur Toes at the shop, including this 'Bonjour Y'all' tank. I knotted it in the back for a cropped look with some high-waisted short shorts from Urban Outfitters. Also currently obsessed with the new jewelry from some of our other local artisan - Free Range and Feral and (brand new to the shop!) A Pocket Novel. Those delicate Japanese glass beaded bracelets are perfect for stacking (#armparty, anyone?). And don't even get me started on the new nail polish and lipstick colors from Kitsune's Closet - teaser alert! I personally requested this new fuchsia hue for Summer, coming soon to the shop in lipstick and nail polish.

Grab your sunnies and sunscreen, tanks and top knots, cuz Summer is officially here!

Spring Style for Changing Seasons

Linnea White

MG_9912_cropped.jpg

Time. It's time for Spring to get here! Waiting. We're anxiously awaiting the changing of the seasons, and for warmer, brighter days ahead. We couldn't help but channel all of the whimsy and wonder of the changing seasons into this week's Dressing Up with Darling outfit. Spring style is all one part practical transitional layers and one part whimsical, playful patterns and colors. It's a joyous season of change and expectancy, and your style can (and should) reflect this spirit. We've talked about how to layer for transitional Spring weather, and we've talked about whimsical pattern play. So, why not get playful with our styled looks as we transition from Winter into Spring?!

We made our way over to The Clock Shop on Water Street for the perfect backdrop to our seasonal waiting game. It may have been in the upper 30s when we snapped these pictures (I spy goosebumps!), but our hearts were warmed by the spirit of Spring!

Darling, You've Got Style: How to Rock a Top Knot

Linnea White

MG_5791.jpg

The blonde Darling duo loves to rock a topknot, a bun, a throw-it-up-and-go hairstyle that works for our day-to-day routines of shop life, teaching barre, and all the things. Whether long hair or short hair, half-up or full bun, classically neat or tousled, the topknot is one of the season's hottest hairstyles. Not sure how to make it work? Get inspired, darlings.

All images via Pinterest (so also check out Pinterest).

The Messy TopKnot

AKA The Bedhead Bun. The messier the better. No twisting or fancy technique here. Just find a way that works for your hair to throw it up with an elastic and look fab.

The Ballerina Bun

You can’t go wrong with the classic ballerina bun. Place is high on the crown of your head (for ultimate chic-ness). For longer hair (for ultimate twist magic). Start with a high, tight pony tail. Brush it out and tighten the elastic. Twist the ponytail around and around into a bun, fastening with pins. Keep it neat, or add light texture.

The Knotted, Twisted TopKnot

With high texture and high knot-titude, this look is a straight off the runways. Pull your hair into a pony tail on the top (back half) of your head. For medium to short hair, section your hair into two pieces and twist each section, crossing over and overlaying the sections for extra knotted goodness (think sculpting height versus a flat circle). For long hair, section your hair into four pieces, twist each piece, and cross the pieces together two at a time for extreme volume knot-titude (think a messy, knotted braid). Wrap with an elastic to hold (pins, too, if needed). Use a brush to tousle and add flyaways as desired.

The Half-Up Topknot

More casual and great for shorter hair styles. This half-up, half-down look can still have plenty of fashion knot-titude. For shorter hair, separate your hair higher on the crown of your head, leaving some above your ears. For longer hair, separate your hair by the ears. Twist the top half of hair into a topknot and fasten with an elastic. Simply! Tousle, texturize, curl, or straighten as desired.
