Spring Style Trends, Part 2: Gingham Get-ups

Linnea White

From off-the-shoulder tops and wide leg pants, to gingham get-ups and slide sandals, we're talking about Spring Style Trends on the blog, showcasing how you can rock the latest trends AND shop secondhand at the same time.

Gingham is back this Spring in a big way, and when this made in Korea gingham shirtdress came in to the shop, I knew it needed to be featured. Slides (and mules) are also trending this season, and these white slide sandals added a bit of chill to this otherwise buttoned up look.

And what's better than a pair of statement sunnies for finishing a head-to-toe look? These Twiggy-inspired sunnies are so over-the-top, they actually work. And looking like a bug is also super big this season, just FYI/ICYMI, so why the heck not?

I call this my Iris Apfel-inspired look, or my fly-on-the-wall look. Either way, it's effortlessly cool, and insanely comfy - a combo I can fully support. Especially for the weekend, and this outfit is owning all the weekend vibes, right down to the people watching and window lounging.

How are you rocking gingham this Spring, darling?

P.S. As I mentioned before, this is my new hair cut, and it's just so good. Who else feels like a fresh chop in the Springtime is the BEST?!

Spring Break Ready: Vacation Essentials

Linnea White

Ignore the flurries that were spotted in Charlottesville today, you Spring Breakers. Get Spring Break ready for that tropical weather with these vacation essentials. Head South, to the land of dragon flies and saltwater breezes.

Just last week, when the temperatures were in the seventies, we took to the streets of Downtown Cville in an outfit ready for Spring Break. This outfit shoot may have taken place in the streets, but it's ready for the BEACH. Palm trees, plz.

These dragonfly pattern shorts by Daughters of the Liberation (Anthropologie) have been calling my name since they came into the shop, and I loved contrasting their girlishness with a boho crochet, fringe hem crop sweater (also by Anthropologie) and Free People bralette underneath. Because showing your bra is all the rage this season. Good thing we just got a few super cute Free People bralettes in the shop, huh?

To play up the tropical, Spring Break vibes, I added a pair of mirrored colorful sunnies and these strappy Jeffrey Campbell block heels. Don't forget your throw-all tote bag for all your adventures and souvenirs, especially a locally made, screen printed "Nasty Woman" tote bag. And, of course, don't forget the simple statement accessories that are easy to pack and can be worn with everything, like this new choker necklace by Free Range and Feral and a few everyday stacking rings by Thicket - locally made, of course.

And since vacation packing means versatility, a jean jacket is the perfect layering piece for any temps. This one my Pilcro & The Letterpress is SO cute and comfortable.

What are your Spring break/vacation essentials?

Poncho Perfect: Boho Winter Layering

Linnea White

Styling a poncho can be a little intimidating. It's a lot of fabric, and can be unflattering on your frame if not styled for your body. But, ponchos can also be amazingly boho chic and super cozy when styled correctly. And this look is poncho perfect.

This temperate Winter weather has inspired me to experiment with layers, and when a few ponchos came into the shop this Winter, I decided to give this layering piece a try. Loving the fringe detail on this BCBG Max Azria black poncho, I went for a boho look, adding a felt hat in a bright color, a striped, cropped turtleneck, and pleather midi skirt. These Western style shoes really pull the look together, giving it just the finishing sass it needed.

Don't fear the poncho, darlings! Here are a few simple styling tips for ponchos:

  1. Keep the outfit one color - like all black.
  2. Long lines extend the frame under the poncho, especially if it's a bulky poncho. Try skinny jeans, a maxi skirt, fitted heels, or knee high boots. A long necklace layered over the poncho will do wonders for the eye and elongating the overall look.
  3. Belt it! A belted poncho can be a super chic look, and help accentuate your frame underneath.
  4. Layer a solid color poncho over stripes for a fun pop of pattern.
  5. Get boho with it - add a felt hat and flared pants, or a little extra fringe.

How do you style the poncho for chic layering?

Fitness Friday: Activewear Style on a Budget

Linnea White

We've talked about studio to street style before, and for this Fitness Friday, I'm back at it with a little activewear style. From paying for the gym membership or class packs to buying all the gear (cuz it's all so darn cute these days), we know it ain't easy on the wallet to be all #fitspiration. Here's a little fit life style inspo for the lover of budget friendly consignment finds!

I like to call these pants my Thunder Thigh pants, because they legit look like lightening bolts across my thigh. And how perfectly they pair with my Lightening Fast windbreaker jacket. I ran so fast the wind turned my hair white. True story.

In other news, we have a ton of activewear coming into the shop these days, and it sure makes looking cute for all those gym dates no sweat. And what do you need to put all of your cute gym clothes in? A bag, of course! And this lululemon gym bag is a stunna'. It even has a little removable bag to put all your stinky clothes in when you're done glistening in yoga class.

What's your secret to hitting the streets in style before/after your workout?

Get Weird: High Fashion Winter Style

Linnea White

A Winter forecast of mid-50 degrees is a chance to get weird with all these sweaters. Because being able to wear just a sweater in January is weird.

When this H&M chunky knit sweater came into the shop, I knew it had to be featured. It's just so... weird. And amazing. I tied up a blue hued top to match for a crop top look, and a pair of high waisted silky jogger pants for a sleek silhouette under the bulk of the sweater. Add on a pair of equally amazingly weird platform creepers, and this outfit was just too cool for school.

Don't forget to accessorize with all the locally made goodies in the shop - like this neutral leather geometric charm Pan&Tea choker and a pair of vintage iridescent button studs by Pips & Co. Add a top knot and a mauve matte lip, and this look was ready to catch lots of odd glances on the Downtown Mall. Just the way we like it.

What's your favorite way to make a fashion statement in the Winter?
