It’s my favorite weekend of the year in Charlottesville! Or one of them. In my top 5 - definitely. And my sartorial moment of film festival street style. I love The Virginia Film Festival, and have attended every year since I was a 4th year student at UVa – that's 10 years in a row! It's been an incredible decade of celebrating film - local and international. Here's my list of film picks for this year's festival!Read More

It's my favorite weekend of the year! Or one of them. Top 5. For sure. I love The Virginia Film Festival, and have attended every year since I was a 4th year student at UVa - 8 years in a row! I recently styled a wild and warm outfit for the weekend's festivities, showing a little Virginia Film Festival Shop Girl Style for film-hopping and shop-girling.
My VFF Picks
I always try to see as many films as possible when the Virginia Film Festival arrives, and this year, they do not disappoint with an incredible line-up for their 30th Anniversary festival. It's so hard to pick! But here is my list of films I'll be seeing this weekend.
- Thursday :: Opening Night Film - Downsizing, 7pm
- Friday :: Krystal, 7pm
- Friday :: Rebels on Point, 9pm
- Saturday :: Wild Honey, 3:15pm
- This is going to be such a treat!! My childhood friend produced this film, and I get to reunite with her and her family for the showing. Her mom was my ballet teacher growing up in Northern Virginia, and I'm not sure if I'm more excited to see all of them or the film!
- Saturday :: Centerpiece Film - Hostiles, 7:30pm
- Sunday :: Sammy Davis, Jr.: I've Gotta Be Me, 11:45am
- Sunday :: The Leisure Seeker, 1:30pm
- Sunday :: Charlottesville: Our Streets, 4:30pm
- Sunday :: Closing Night Film - Call Me by Your Name, 7:30pm
What films are you seeing this weekend, darlings?
Virginia Film Festival Shop Girl Style | Get Wild (and Warm)
First of all, the teddy (or pile) coat trend makes my heart super happy. I found this gem at T.J. Maxx recently for under $30! And it's the most huggable coat ever. People just want to touch me and hug me when I wear it. It's not me. It's the coat. Just look at it.
Besides the incredible coat, my outfit inspiration came from my "Where the Wild Things Are" tee I recently acquired at the shop. It quickly became a new fav, and has inspired me to get wild with my style. I layered started with my favorite pair of high-waisted black jeans (Free People, scored at Darling last year) and the graphic tee, and went from there, adding to the base a pair of OTK boots (another incredible new score from the shop) and my tried-and-true leather jacket from Anthropologie a while back. Oh, and of course my seeing goggles, because I can't see a movie without them. I'll also look very intellectual during the festival due to my poor vision, which is an added bonus.
I threw the teddy coat over the leather jacket ensemble, and I had a perfectly warm and wild outfit for the festival weekend.

From Cannes to Charlottesville, from fashion to film, the season of the film festival is an exciting one. And it's that time of year in Charlottesville! The Virginia Film Festival begins tomorrow, November 3, and runs through Sunday, November 6, and brings the best of international, domestic, and local films to the theaters of Cville every year. And Darling is partnering with the festival to bring you the best of Virginia's film festival style. Giving a nod to the renown French film festival, and to the many black & white and historical film screenings happening at Vinegar Hill Theater, I styled this adorable VFF Intern, Lucie Lyon, in a black & white, European-inspired ensemble. It all began with the j'adore sweater, and quickly became a modern, chic look with classic elements - like the red lip and locket-look necklace, declaring our love for Virginia and this wonderful festival. The mod mini skirt, silk scarf, geometric clutch, and platform booties give this look a modern edge, perfect for the cultured film go-ers of today.
Darling adores the Virginia Film Festival! How will you get styled for the weekend festivities? Leave a comment or show us your #vffstyle on Instagram, and win two ticket vouchers, available for pick up at the shop!

Last week, our lucky Darling Movie Makeover Giveaway winner was styled and pampered for a night at The Virginia Film Festival's Opening Night Gala at The Jefferson Theater. What a night! Renata Germino, a teacher with the City Schools and proud mother, stunned in her Alice and Olivia black dress, accessorized with shoes and earrings from Darling Boutique. Sarah Hatch brought out Renata's natural beauty, complimenting her already gorgeous self with classic, glamorous hair and makeup for the evening.
Thank you, Renata, for being a wonderful, gracious winner! We were honored to style you and celebrate! And thank you to The Virginia Film Festival for this fun partnership. Styled photos taken inside The Paramount Theater.

Yesterday, we showed off a stylish intern of The Virginia Film Festival to kick-off our giveaway. Today for Part 2, we're bringing you a look styled for a night out at the festival's Gala or Late Night Wrap Party. We styled Braden Hassett, The Virginia Film Festival's Business Administrator, in a classic little black dress and played it up with a little edge for a modern, sleek, red carpet-worthy look. This leather jacket is just dreamy, and paired with a geometric necklace and red lip, this look takes classy to sassy.
Get on Instagram to show us your #vffstyle for a chance to win two tickets to the Late Night Wrap Party this Saturday! The giveaway runs from Wednesday, November 4, and ends Saturday, November 7 at noon. Must be 21+ to enter. Limited to one entry (unique photo tagged with #vffstyle) a day.
