Winter Layering: Sweater Weather, Part 3

Linnea White

Sometimes a woman's best friend is the softest, coziest, and warmest sweater in her closet. And this chunky knit number is oh-so-perfect for all the Winter layering needs. When a bunch of amazing Free People comes into the shop in one week, I tend to get a little giddy. With an assortment of Winter hats, sweaters, dresses, and tops, it was time to play dress up.

This embroidered short crop Free People sweater is even more stunning in person, with vibrant colors and a dolphin cut hem. For warmth, I layered it with a long, flowy, chunky open sweater for a little proportion play. The extra long sleeves on this sweater gives me life - literally, because it keeps the blood flowing in my fingers, which are always cold in the Winter.

I kept the bottom of this look monotone, pairing neutrals like this taupe pair of Level 99 jeans and Frye Engineer boots. Add a pink lip for a color pop (locally made by Kitsune's Closet, of course) and top it all off with a slouchy beanie for the perfect casual Winter layering style.

Sweater Weather, Part 2: Casual Christmas Style

Linnea White

Whether you're meeting the parents, or just hanging with your parents, this Christmas weekend of gatherings is here, and it's time to get cozy chic, or chicy cozy. Casual Christmas style is an art of balancing chic with comfort, and layering strategically for fireside hangs and post-dinner digestion cold flashes.

Why not play with reds for a festive look for all the feasts and frolicking? This patterned sweater is the perfect layering piece for the Christmas weekend, feeling seasonal without shouting "DECK THE HALLS!"

Try pairing a patterned open sweater over a basic sweater. Keep the details interesting, like the cream ruffles hem of the bottom layer, and intentional, like the red pattern of the leather clutch for a little pattern play.

Wear a pair of cute, and comfortable, booties for an elevated look that's also ready to frolic and play outside after dinner with the nephews. And legging style pants with a lot of stretch are a MUST for any big meal gathering.

Don't forget your red lipstick (locally made, naturally) and a cute antler necklace for festive touch and the finishing touch on that casual Christmas style!

What are you wearing for the Christmas gatherings this weekend? What's your favorite way to embrace the sweater weather?

Sweater Weather: Cozy Winter Knits

Linnea White

Happy first day of Winter, darlings! The sweater weather is in full force, and the cozy Winter knits are many in the shop. Get inspired this week for all those holiday gatherings ahead.

To be honest, the fresh silvery locks inspired the color palette of this outfit, loving the silver white highlights in play with the lavender hues of the Free People blouse and sweater. Any sweater with extra long, chunky sleeves calls for cozy cuddles on Christmas morning with a mug of cocoa. With a pair of stretchy second-skin jeans and staple boots, this outfit is ready for that holiday with family and friends. Add a statement choker, like this locally made pieces with howlite spikes, and a plum lip for an extra level of drama.

A Darling Makeover | Winter Ice Hair

Linnea White

This week, I went in to see my gal Sarah Hatch at At Last for some color touch ups. My request: Winter ice hair - a more platinum look for the season.

My natural blonde is a golden yellow, with a variety of hues and highlights. This visit brightened those colors, taking out much of the golden yellow tones for a whiter, brighter, crisper, silvery look for Winter. After my girl, Sarah, styled it all pretty, I dropped by Milli Coffee Roasters for a quick afternoon espresso, and a few quick pictures with Tristan.

And, naturally, my outfit was a mixture of #darlingfinds, making this the perfect mini makeover meets shop girl style post.

What do you all think? Should I got all out platinum? Suggestions? Tips? Let a girl know!

How to Style the Puffer Jacket

Linnea White

Screen-Shot-2016-01-21-at-3.18.37-PM.png

Let's face it - when it's below freezing, icy wind is blowing, and snow is falling, the puffer jacket is donned and the Michelin Man sightings begin. Do not fret, darlings. There is plenty of great style inspiration out there to help get us through the Winter cold with all our fingers and toes intact and still lookin' totes fetch. These nylon/down marshmallow coats are often the subject of love/hate debates. Although they may not be the most stylish outerwear piece, they are certainly the most practical in the elements. Stay warm and stay stylish by copying some of these outfits we've rounded up!

How to Style the Puffer Jacket

Belt It/Cinch It

Try a figure flattering dark palette and proportion-balancing slim bottoms to keep this puffy look stylish. A belted jacket or cinched waist is a definite plus.

Crop It

A cropped, fitted style will show your waistline and keep you from being swallowed up in a ball of down.

Chunky Layers

Wear a chunky, high-neck sweater under your puffer for a little added warmth, and removing the need to zip the jacket (at least when it's not full on blizzard-ing).

Fur Makes All Things Better

Sure, the fur lined hood can be a fun Eskimo look. But what about adding a big, oversize fur shawl collar, snood, or scarf to the mix? Play it up. Layer a fur vest under your puffer. Add some drama to the look, and extra warmth!

Keep it Sporty

Distressed denim, lace up boots or sneakers, a beanie - athletic, sporty chic style keeps the puffer casual-cool.

Accessories that POP

Add some fun (maybe even neon) accessories to the mix. After all, you're wearing a puffy marshmallow jacket and it's snowing outside. Be a kid again - dress it up and add some whimsy!

The Fashion Girl

The Fashion Girl Drape: It's a thing, albeit a completely impractical thing for the everyday gal. However, to achieve the look in the Winter, layer a sweater and/or moto-style jacket under your puffer for extra warmth. If you're feeling like a fashionista.
