Borrowing from the Boys: Grey Blazer Trend + Loafers

Linnea White

Menswear Chic is not a new concept in fashion. Borrowing from the Boys is something designers and fashionistas have been doing for decades. But, this season, a few key menswear pieces have been making quite a statement in the fashion world - high fashion and commercial alike. This outfit showcases the perfection of the loafer and the simplicity of the grey blazer trend.

We've already established that you can shop consignment and still wear the latest fashion trends, not to mention designer labels for much less, and this post is just more proof (in case you needed it). This Fall, several amazing grey blazers came into the shop, along with many amazing mules and loafers.

This grey blazer trend has literally been on every style blogger and street style star, and for good reason. It's a versatile piece that can be incredibly stylish, not just boring, shabby, or overly corporate. And I knew I wanted to create a look to showcase just that - how chic a longline, structured grey blazer can really be. Layered over a silk shirtdress by Theory, the blazer stands out. Add a pair of the most beautiful loafers you've ever seen, and a simply statement bag, and the look it complete. With pieces this individually perfect in their clean lines and minimalist simplicity, you don't need a lot of embellishments.

How have you been wearing the grey blazer this year, darlings? What's your favorite items to borrow from the boys? Tell us in the comments!

Cozy in Cashmere

Linnea White

Some days (mostly Monday's), it's all about cozy. And when a cashmere sweater, velvet pants, suede booties, and leather tote bag collide in one affordable, secondhand outfit, the wardrobe and the wallet can sing some praises.

This look is all about lush, cozy closet staples, like cashmere, suede, and leather, mixed in with some current trends, like oversized sweaters and velvet everything. Shopping consignment is a great way to find designer pieces, or just really great quality fabrics, for a whole lot less. When this vintage Nordstrom cashmere sweater came in to the shop in mint condition, I knew it had to be styled. Paired with an effortless pair of AG Jeans velvet pants and suede booties, this look was ready for the Fall leaves covered streets.

And don't forget your locally-made accessories, because supporting handmade is even cooler than shopping consignment. Or at least equally cool. The simply garnet + gold triangle studs by Emily Warden Designs are the perfect compliment to the effortless chic of this ensemble. Add an everyday geo cuff set by Free Range and Feral and the jewelry is done.

One of our newest Darling Artisans, Brother John Leather, makes some incredible handout, handsewn leather goods, like this leather tote bag - the perfect everyday, carry-all tote. We filled the bag with his leather wallet, leather journal, and leather clutch for all the leather goodness. What else would you put in your amazing leather bag but more leather?

Keep it Neutral: The Sweater Dress

Linnea White

Neutral: How I feel about these Winter temps right now. But, hey, it's nothing a sweater dress can't fix, am I right? And this sweater on sweater look is just what you need to get through the final weeks of Winter.

I love Anthropologie. And I love secondhand Anthropologie even more. And this sweater on sweater combo is a match made in Anthropologie heaven. The neutral hues of grey and taupe blend effortlessly for a chic layered (and super warm) look. Add a pair of boots or booties in a similar hue to keep the look monotone from head to toe - and elongate the frame.

This necklace by Little Paper Crane (new this week!) is the perfect accent for the patterned midi dress, giving me all the vibes. Add a pair of earrings by the same artisan for a little matchy matchy ensemble, and grab a soft, leather clutch by Free Range and Feral, and this look is ready to take on the last Wintry weeks ahead. Because sweater weather isn't really sweater weather unless you're piling them on top of each other like it's your dang job.

P.S. This is my new hair! Sarah Hatch made my Winter White platinum dreams come true last week for my birthday, and I am obsessed. It's everything I wanted, and some. And it was well worth the wait, the month of transition (here it was the first go 'round), and the 12 hours and two appointments to get here. I can't wait to see how this new color changes up my style game this season!

Poncho Perfect: Boho Winter Layering

Linnea White

Styling a poncho can be a little intimidating. It's a lot of fabric, and can be unflattering on your frame if not styled for your body. But, ponchos can also be amazingly boho chic and super cozy when styled correctly. And this look is poncho perfect.

This temperate Winter weather has inspired me to experiment with layers, and when a few ponchos came into the shop this Winter, I decided to give this layering piece a try. Loving the fringe detail on this BCBG Max Azria black poncho, I went for a boho look, adding a felt hat in a bright color, a striped, cropped turtleneck, and pleather midi skirt. These Western style shoes really pull the look together, giving it just the finishing sass it needed.

Don't fear the poncho, darlings! Here are a few simple styling tips for ponchos:

  1. Keep the outfit one color - like all black.
  2. Long lines extend the frame under the poncho, especially if it's a bulky poncho. Try skinny jeans, a maxi skirt, fitted heels, or knee high boots. A long necklace layered over the poncho will do wonders for the eye and elongating the overall look.
  3. Belt it! A belted poncho can be a super chic look, and help accentuate your frame underneath.
  4. Layer a solid color poncho over stripes for a fun pop of pattern.
  5. Get boho with it - add a felt hat and flared pants, or a little extra fringe.

How do you style the poncho for chic layering?

Get Weird: High Fashion Winter Style

Linnea White

A Winter forecast of mid-50 degrees is a chance to get weird with all these sweaters. Because being able to wear just a sweater in January is weird.

When this H&M chunky knit sweater came into the shop, I knew it had to be featured. It's just so... weird. And amazing. I tied up a blue hued top to match for a crop top look, and a pair of high waisted silky jogger pants for a sleek silhouette under the bulk of the sweater. Add on a pair of equally amazingly weird platform creepers, and this outfit was just too cool for school.

Don't forget to accessorize with all the locally made goodies in the shop - like this neutral leather geometric charm Pan&Tea choker and a pair of vintage iridescent button studs by Pips & Co. Add a top knot and a mauve matte lip, and this look was ready to catch lots of odd glances on the Downtown Mall. Just the way we like it.

What's your favorite way to make a fashion statement in the Winter?
